TOTAL FILM RATING

BY: Total Film Oct 27th 2003 FILED UNDER: DVD

Undeterred by the absence of the chrome-domed Vin Diesel, Fast And The Furious producer Neal Moritz simply teams returning surf dude Paul Walker with another muscular partner (Tyrese) for a second bout of rubber-squealing, gear-crunching mayhem.

Director John Singleton wisely recognises the cars are the true stars, trimming down character and plot to an absolute minimum lest they interfere with the frenetic scenes of street racing, tag-team pursuit and freeway carnage. You can see why - the movie gets stuck in neutral whenever the focus shifts to Walker and Tyrese's bickering relationship, though Cole Hauser's ruthless bad guy keeps the motor turning.

DVD Extras:

Singleton's commentary is full of boyish enthusiasm ("Look at that hot body!" he coos when Eva Mendes turns up), but his habit of merely describing what's happening on screen is annoying. Walker appears in a tightly edited short that bridges the gap between F&F and 2F2F, while Tricking Out A Hot Import Car tells you how to customise your own overpriced Japanese shitbox. The deleted scenes are negligible.
