Easy Rider

Hippies Wyatt (Peter Fonda) and Billy (Dennis Hopper) go off on a motorcycle trip across America. Along the way, they meet up with everyone from violent rednecks to completely stoned freaks. Which is nice. They also hook up with George Hanson (Jack Nicholson). Not everyone lives happily ever after.

Commentary by Dennis Hopper, 67-minute Shaking The Cage featurette, filmographies. While it may have dated, this is the classic counterculture movie. If some of the elements on show here seem overly familiar, then chances are it's because Hopper and Fonda were there first and others have followed. Watching the documentary, you may be amazed that those involved managed to produce anything at all, such were the on-set arguments and shenanigans (some of which continue to smoulder to this day), but, hey, it was like that back in the '60s. Man. This groovy disc more than does justice to the film. And it's nice to see a classic flick with a proper commentary.
