Star turns provide some big laughs in this anarchic WW2 puppet comedy

Jackboots on Whitehall review

Falling halfway between The Adam And Joe Show and Team America: World Police, this is a brilliantly anarchic take on WW2.

Writer-directors Edward and Rory McHenry are the puppet masters twisting history, as the Germans drill a tunnel to invade Britain and capture Churchill.

If the use of Barbie dolls sounds a bit YouTube, fear not – a top-drawer voice cast including Ewan McGregor raise this far above home-movie standards.

Timothy spall doesn’t quite nail Churchill’s accent but Richard E Grant’s crazed man-of-god is a comic delight.
