The Home Office is seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to co-ordinate Government interaction with the UK security industry.

The Defence and Security White Paper National Security through Technology published in February 2012 recognised that a healthy and competitive UK security industry can make a significant contribution to our national security and can provide jobs, maintain skills and sustain advanced manufacturing and technological capabilities. In the White Paper the Government committed to increasing support for our security industry. The Home Office lead this work.

This newly created role will be responsible for coordinating cross-Government interaction with the UK security industry and supporting security exports in particular. Extensive engagement with all areas of the security industry will be required. Working in partnership with other Departments, foreign governments and a wide range of partners within the security community and beyond the Director will identify and develop security export opportunities in key markets overseas and maximise the security legacy of the 2012 Olympic Games. You will also be responsible for learning from security industry feedback to improve Government procurement of security products. You will be expected to develop the options set out in the White Paper to further support the UK security industry, including the development of a UK ‘security brand’.

A proven track record of working in or closely with government on counter terrorism or national security issues and with the UK security industry will be essential. You will also have the confidence, authority and interpersonal skills to negotiate and influence effectively at the highest levels, including Ministerial, both in the UK and overseas and a track record of building strong working relationships across the public and private sectors. You will have proven commercial skills.
