NEW YORK: 28 January 2013: Today, the Financial Times and Citi announce a global call for submissions for the 2013 FT/Citi Ingenuity Awards: Urban Ideas in Action, a global programme that will recognise individuals, teams, organisations and community groups that have developed groundbreaking solutions to urban challenges that benefit cities, citizens and urban communities.
With more than 3.3 billion people currently living in urban areas – a number expected to rise to over 5 billion by 2030, according to a United Nations report – cities have a pressing need to address accelerating urbanisation to continue to thrive. This global programme was developed by the FT and Citi, in collaboration with INSEAD, to recognise those fueling urban progress.

LONDON: 19 December 2012: Hedley Twidle, a 32-year old South African university lecturer, has beaten more than 400 entrants to win the inaugural Financial Times and The Bodley Head non-fiction essay competition. His work, ‘Getting past Coetzee’, deals with the influence of the Booker-winning novelist on Twidle’s life and work in Cape Town.
Stuart Williams, publisher at The Bodley Head and chairman of the five-strong judging panel, said of Twidle’s essay: “Our winner writes thrillingly about JM Coetzee, in ways that both illuminate his novels and reimagines the essay form itself. His essay fizzes with intellectual and stylistic energy.”

Luzhou: 24 November 2012: More than 150 economists, finance professionals, entrepreneurs and artists gathered at the Jiucheng Hotel in Luzhou, China today for the FTChinese Economic Forum 2012 to share insights on the economy and explore the city’s cultural heritage.
Co-organised by the Financial Times, FTChinese.com and Luzhou Laojiao Group, this one-day event consisted of keynote speeches, panel discussions and a city tour of Luzhou. Fuan Li, former head of innovation regulation, CBRC and Yongfa Zhou, vice general secretary, China Banking Association delivered keynote speeches on the regional financial market’s development and banking service.
