You'll either love it or you'll admire it, while wishing it would calm down and, I don't know, maybe pick up a book for a while.

Unlike the Pixar films toward which it aspires-which marry sophisticated conceits to straightforward storylines-Wreck-It Ralph consistently gets lost in its own intricate plot mechanics.

Wreck-It Ralph has a promising setup and the opening will strike a chord with gamers of a certain age, but it never recovers from a dull midsection which gradually squanders a great idea.

Disney have struck gold outside of their partnership with Pixar, delivering a riotous, sharp and stirring rollercoaster ride of an animated film, reinforced by clever, sentimental video game references and saccharine delight.

Wreck-It-Ralph is one of the year's best animated features (if not the best) and it's the attention to detail in the tightly-written script that gives it such an edge.

Audience Reviews for Wreck-it Ralph

In terms of animated feature films, Wreck-it-Ralph is one of the most accomplished and highly entertaining in recent memory. Disney always creates the most amusing films in the genre, and they have upped their game with this one. This will certainly please the die-hard fans of the genre. The film has plenty of charm, and great comedy. The cast do a fine job in their performances, and each brings more humor to their characters. John C. Reilly, Jane Lynch and Jack McBrayer are wonderful, and in my opinion are great choices for the roles. The animation is well done, and there are plenty of video game references that will surely appeal to gamers and as a gamer, I thought it was creative, funny and above all original. This for me is the best animated comedy since Toy Story 3, and it is a film that will surely appeal to the entire family. The strengths of the film lie in its cast and terrific story that is always entertaining, quirky and at times a bit sad. This is terrific family entertainment and I think it is one of the best animated films of the last ten years. The plot is smart and entertaining from start to finish. If you want a great animated feature, definitely check out Wreck-It-Ralph. This is a phenomenal film that I very much enjoyed and everyone involved did a great job. Director Rich Moore crafted something special here, and if you have the chance, definitely watch this one, as you won't regret it. This is a well constructed animated comedy that is fun for all ages and is destined to be among the very best in Disney animated films.

A video game villain tries to gain acceptance from his cohorts by winning a medal and redeeming his self-worth.
Sarah Silverman - yes, the one who makes racist jokes charmingly - makes this film; in fact, I'd venture to say that I didn't find the film at all compelling until her Vaneliope von Schweetz appeared with Silverman's acid-tongued sweetness. John C. Reilly has hapless down pat, and he's perfect for Wreck-It Ralph.
The story is basic, kids film fare, a story of redemption and good guys being good. The video game references are fun for insiders, and the little details like Pac-Man's cherries and Q-Bert's down-and-out disposition make for a few chuckles.
Overall, as animated family films go, this is one of the better ones.
