Adam Sandler has signed on to star in an untitled romantic comedy (formerly titled Blended) set up at Warner Bros.  The story follows “a man and a woman who, after a disastrous first date, get trapped at a family resort with their kids from previous marriages in tow.”  Believe it or not, a romance starts to develop.  At one pre-Sandler point Sandra Bullock was attached.  Now, THR hears Drew Barrymore is emerging as the frontrunner to play the female lead, which would form a nice Sandler/Barrymore trilogy following The Wedding Singer and 50 First Dates.

There is no director on board yet, but Sandler has decided to make this his next project under the Happy Madison banner.  That means The Ridiculous 6, a Western comedy Sandler is attached to, will be put on hold for the time being.  I’d rather see Sandler out of his comfort zone in the Western genre than find another excuse to film at a vacation spot.  But we have been charmed by the Sandler/Barrymore team in the past, so let’s hope this is the one where Sandler turns it around.

  1. Adam and Drew make for a nice romantic pairing. I’m normally not big on either of their movies, but if they can match the feel of The Wedding Singer and 50 First Dates, it will probably be a solid date movie.

  2. Sandler hasn’t made an interesting movie since Reign Over Me. And he hasn’t made a good comedy in close to 16 years. The guy is horrible and he does nothing to introduce and promote new comics. Apatow’s last few films have been lukewarm, but the guy is constantly showcasing new comedic talent and making stars out of them. Since the 40 Year Old Virgin Apatow has created Seth Rogen, Steve Carell, Jonah Hill, Kristen Wig, Paul Rudd, Bill Hader, Aziz Ansari, Jason Segel, and tons more. Sandler is just a zit on hollywoods ass.
