The FT app for Android is a news application optimised for the latest generation of Android devices. The app provides quick and easy access to FT.com’s news, markets data and portfolios.

• What devices does it work on?
  • The app is optimised for phones running Android Froyo (2.2) and above, and tablets running Android Honeycomb (3.1) and above.
• How do I get the application onto my device?
  • Android users can download the application from the Android Market.
• Do I need to pay for the application?
  • The app is free to download. After registering, which is also free, users can view 8 free articles per month, have access to their FT.com portfolio and have unrestricted access to markets data and FT video. Full FT.com subscription is required to gain unlimited access. You can subscribe either within the application or on FT.com.
• I can’t sign in to the application
  • Don’t forget your email address and password are the same as on FT.com. They are CASE SENSITIVE so you will need to enter your details into the app appropriately. If you have forgotten your password, click on the ‘forgot password’ button on the sign-in screen, and follow the instructions.
• I can’t sign in to the application but I am using the correct details
  • If you are sure you are entering the correct login details for your account but are not able to log in, there may be a problem with your account. Simply email Help@FT.com with your details and this can be resolved.
• How do I log out of the app?
  • You will be able to log out of the app by clicking on ‘Your account’ in the menu.
• What are the rules of the Android access model?
  • Registered users can view 8 free articles per month, have access to their FT.com portfolio and have unrestricted access to markets data and FT video.
  • Standard and premium subscribers have unlimited access to news articles, access to their FT.com portfolio and full access to the markets data and FT video sections. Premium subscribers have the additional bonus of access to Lex content.
• How do I sign in to the application?
  • Users can sign in to the application by tapping the ‘menu’ icon from the top right of the homepage and subsequent main section pages. Simply tap ‘Sign in or subscribe’ and fill in your details to gain advantage of your FT.com package.
• How do I download content to read offline?
  • The FT app for Android automatically downloads content in the background even when the app is ‘closed’ on the device. You can set your preferences in the app settings as to what time of day you want to start downloading articles, and at what frequency. Then, you will be able to read content even if you don’t have a signal.
  • When you regain your signal you can hit the ‘refresh’ button to the right of the page to update your content once again.
• How do I remove the application from my Android device?
  • Where the FT app is pre-installed on devices the app cannot be removed. However, those devices which do not have the app pre-installed can remove the app via Settings > Applications > Manage applications > FT Mobile > Uninstall.
• I cannot view my FT.com portfolio
  • The portfolio feature is available to registered users or subscribers who have previously set up a portfolio on FT.com. You will not be able to set up a new portfolio via the application. Don’t forget, you will have to sign in to view your FT.com portfolio.
• I cannot find the content I am looking for
  • A news and stock search function is available by tapping the ‘search’ icon from the top right of the homepage and subsequent main section pages. Simply tap the magnifying glass button, enter your search terms and pick the relevant results.
• I cannot access Lex content in the application
  • Lex content is only available to premium subscribers.
• I cannot play FT Video on my device
  • FT Video requires an active Wi-Fi or 3G connection to stream. If you are viewing the FT app for Android while offline you will not be able to view FT video on your device.
• How much data does the FT application use?
  • Downloading an entire edition of the FT for offline reading will normally take about could use a maximum of 25-30MB of data (approximately the same as six or seven mp3 music files). However, average daily usage will be much lower than this, as the application will download just the new or changed information.
  • As with all applications you use on your Android device, users roaming outside of their home country or network should be aware of expensive data roaming charges, and switch off data roaming.
