Lead Funding Specialist

The Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC), a multilateral financial institution that is a member of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Group, has an opening for an experienced lead funding specialist to join its team.

The IIC’s mission is to promote economic development in its regional developing member countries by fostering the establishment, expansion, and modernization of private enterprises, with a focus on small and medium-sized companies.

Key Responsibilities

The lead funding specialist will be responsible for: i) providing strategic input for the sound management of funding; ii) maintaining relationships with the international banking and investment community; iii) supporting cofinancing activities; and iv) making pricing recommendations for the IIC’s operations in Latin America and the Caribbean.

His or her key responsibilities will include:

a) Developing and executing the IIC’s funding plan
b) Structuring and implementing issuances in the international capital markets and local capital markets in Latin America
c) Developing and managing relationships with market counterparts, including international and domestic financial institutions, investment banks, and institutional investors
d) Identifying and managing liquidity, currency, and interest rate risk on the IIC’s funding balance sheet
e) Conducting industry and bank market research and pricing data analysis, including secondary market pricing; preparing regular pricing reports for syndicated loans
f) Establishing the pricing for the IIC’s investment portfolio
g) Leading, structuring, and coordinating the IIC’s syndicated transactions
h) Developing processes and procedures and exercising oversight to ensure that effective systems and internal controls exist for managing a derivative portfolio associated with the IIC’s funding operations
i) Taking part in negotiations with borrowers, lenders, and participating banks
j) Developing and growing a diversified base of new investors, identifying prospective new sources of mobilization, and expanding relationships to new areas with existing investors
k) Preparing, in conjunction with the IIC Legal Division, new loan agreements with financial institutions
l) Supporting special projects of the chief of the IIC’s Finance and Strategic Planning Division

Requirements

  • Education: Master’s degree in business administration, finance, economics, or equivalent degree in finance and business
  • Experience: Extensive relevant experience in the capital markets, preferably working in a commercial or investment bank environment
  • Work experience in the debt capital markets (experience with projects and/or structured
    finance syndication is highly desirable)
  • Derivatives, foreign exchange and lending transactions experience is highly desirable
  • Numerical and analytical skills, particularly with regard to capital market instruments and financial risk management
  • Leadership skills
  • Negotiation skills and sound judgment
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to lead a team in a multicultural and interdisciplinary environment
  • Ability to anticipate potential problems and take measures to protect IIC interests.
  • Languages: Excellent command of Spanish and English; Portuguese and/or French is desirable
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities in a fastpaced environment
  • International experience, preferably in emerging/developing markets
  • Availability to travel frequently to other countries
  • Candidates must be citizens of an IIC member country
