Lone Peak’s newest star: Nancy Warner

After leading Springville to an undefeated season and a Class 4A crown this season, Nancy Warner confirmed Friday to The Salt Lake Tribune that she has accepted a job teaching and coaching at Lone Peak High School. She will start next school year. Warner told the Tribune that her family lives near Lone Peak High School in Highland and felt it was a better situation for her family and children being closer to home.

Under Warner, Springville dominated girls’ basketball in Utah in 2012-13. The Red Devils went 25-0, defeating several Class 5A schools in the preseason and eventually winning the 4A state championship with a 54-40 win over Region 8 rival Timpview 54-40 on Feb. 23.

The Springville girls’ basketball program won three of the last four 4A state titles under Warner.

Springville also produced two Gatorade Utah Players of the Year during Warner’s time there: former Red Devil Lexi Eaton, now at BYU, and senior Malia Nawahine, who will continue playing basketball at the University of Utah this fall.

The Salt Lake Tribune will continue to update this story.
