Georgian College is a college of applied arts and technology in Ontario, Canada, with three main campuses in Barrie, Orillia and Owen Sound and four additional campuses in Midland, Muskoka, Orangeville and South Georgian Bay. It is one of the fastest growing colleges in Ontario and welcomes 11,000 full-time and 28,000 continuing education registrations annually. The college’s mission is to inspire innovation, transform lives and connect communities through the power of education.

Georgian College offers academic upgrading, apprenticeship training, certificate, diploma, graduate certificate, college degree and university programs. Its University Partnership Centre is one-of-a-kind in Ontario with university undergraduate and graduate degrees, college degrees and graduate certificate programs and partnerships with select universities. The college has approximately 450 articulation and transfer agreements with 47 institutions around the world and is known for attracting dynamic industry and community leaders, building rich partnerships and providing industry with highly skilled graduates to sustain and grow their operations.

History

The college was established during the formation of Ontario’s college system in 1967. Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology were established on May 21, 1965 when the Ontario system of public colleges was created.

Programs

Georgian College offers academic upgrading, apprenticeship training, certificate, diploma, graduate certificate, college degree and university programs in such areas as business and computer studies, transportation studies, engineering technology, design and visual arts, health sciences and human services, hospitality and tourism.

Scholarships & bursaries

More than 900 awards and scholarships are disbursed to students annually with a combined value of over $700,000. The college joined Project Hero, a scholarship program cofounded by General (Ret'd) Rick Hillier for the families of fallen Canadian Forces members.

The Government of Canada sponsors an Aboriginal Bursaries Search Tool that lists over 680 scholarships, bursaries, and other incentives offered by governments, universities, and industry to support Aboriginal postsecondary participation. Barrie Campus

The main Campus is located on a 140-acre (57 ha) site on the northeast edge of Barrie.

Buildings and features

The Barrie Campus is home to the University Partnership Centre (UPC), which offers numerous bachelor’s and master’s degrees from select universities. The centre has been partnering with universities since 1997 and as of 2011, serves over 2,400 students.

The Barrie Campus is also home to the Sadlon Centre for Health and Wellness. Opened in 2011, this $65-million, 165,000-square-foot (15,300 m²) facility will allow Georgian to double its current 1,500 health program students to 3,000 and allow students to pursue health and wellness related certificates, diplomas and degrees, including advanced degree programs. It is home to a variety of health care teaching clinics open to the public, as well as leading-edge laboratories, and technology-enhanced classrooms.

Other Georgian Centres of Excellence: Automotive Business School of Canada, Canadian Aviation Institute, Centre for Applied Research and Innovation, Centre for Automotive Parts Expertise, Centre for Sustainable Technologies, Georgian College Skilled Trades Centre, Great Lakes International Marine Training and Research Centre, Henry Bernick Entrepreneurship Centre, Justice and Public Safety Institute, and the Ontario Recreational Boating Centre of Excellence.

Barrie Campus Residence

The Barrie Campus is the only campus that offers a full on-campus residence. The residence houses approximately 525 students, which includes 16 live-in residence life staff (15 Resident Attendants and a Manager of Residence Life). There are also two dual bedroom rooms for students with disabilities. Each floor (there are 8 floors) has its own "common room" which has a TV and several couches. During the summer this residence becomes Summer Suites which is a hotel, although a few students remain in the building for summer education.

Orillia Campus

The Orillia Campus is located in a wooded area just off Highway 11 at the southern end of Orillia. On-site facilities include a 150-seat theatre, racquetball court, gym and weight room. Approximately 1,800 students pursue studies at the campus.

The programs at the Orillia Campus are primarily in the health sciences and human services field. Other programs include Police Foundations, Law and Security Administration, Child and Youth worker, plus several post-graduate programs.

Owen Sound Campus

Owen Sound Campus offers a total of 14 full-time programs and a variety of continuing education (part-time) courses. The most notable feature of the campus is the renovated Great Lakes International Marine Training Centre. The 20,000-square-foot (1,900 m²) training centre recently underwent an $8.5-million renovation, which makes it the most technologically advanced marine training centre in the country. The GLIMTC will be used to certify professionals already in the marine industry and to train students in the Marine Engineering Technology and Marine Technology-Navigation programs. Graduates from this program have an average annual starting salary of more than $60,000.

Midland Campus

The Robbert Hartog Midland Campus is a regional campus of Georgian College, providing education and training opportunities to North Simcoe.

Muskoka Campus

The Muskoka Campus is located in Bracebridge, Ontario, 100 km (62 mi) north of Barrie just off Hwy #11 in the cottage country of Muskoka.

South Georgian Bay Campus

Automotive Business School of Canada

Georgian College is also home to the Automotive Business School of Canada, the only one of its kind in the country. The school offers diploma courses in Automotive Marketing and Automotive Marketing (Bilingual). In addition to these programs, the school also offers a bachelor degree in Automotive Management. Students hold North America's largest outdoor Auto Show every year with a show date now in June.

Canadian Aviation Institute

Georgian's three-year Aviation Management Diploma Program is designed to give students knowledge and hands-on experience in Aviation and Management as well as providing students co-operative work experience in the Aviation industry. Students are given the opportunity to pass the examination to receive their Restricted Aeronautical Radio Operation License. Management courses are designed to give students an understanding of management practices and procedures in order to be prepared for future promotional opportunities.

Georgian graduates are employed by NAV CANADA, Lester B. Pearson Airport and the Ministry of Natural Resources and other aviation related companies. Graduates of the Aviation Management Program have landed careers in: Airline Management, Airport Management, Airport Planning, and Flight Dispatch. Government Aviation agencies^{[citation needed]}

Articulation Agreements

A number of articulation agreements have been negotiated with universities and other institutions across Canada, North America and internationally. These agreements are assessed, revised and updated on a regular basis.
