Prince is recovering after an early morning trip to the hospital. The singer was rushed to medical care early Friday morning after his plane made an emergency landing in Moline, Illinois, according to TMZ. Both that website and the Star Tribune confirm that he is now home in Chanhassen, Minnesota.
A rep for the singer told TMZ that he had been fighting the flu for weeks and, after feeling worse in flight, his plane made an unscheduled stop at Quad City International Airport shortly after 1 a.m. An ambulance brought him to a nearby hospital. He was released three hours later and flew home. Another source told Star Tribune that he'd been suffering dehydration.
The singer has been performing sporadic "Piano and a Microphone" dates in recent months. He previously canceled his April 7th show because of the flu, TMZ reports.
On Thursday, shortly before the alleged emergency, Prince performed two sets at the Fox Theater in Atlanta. In late March, the singer completed a run of shows in Canada and announced that he had begun work on his memoirs with a private New York City sampler set.
A press release for the book said that Prince intended it to be "unconventional." "The good people at Random House have made me an offer that I can't refuse," Prince told the audience at his event. "We're starting right at the beginning from my first memory, and hopefully we can move all the way to the Super Bowl. We just started, we're going as quick as we can, working tirelessly."
Prince put out his most recent album, HitnRun: Phase Two, late last year as a surprise release via Tidal. Just months earlier, he'd put out the first "phase" of the record.
