On Dec. 1, RIT men’s basketball head coach Bob McVean won his 500th game at the university, as the Tigers defeated Bard College, 74-63. 

“This really is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of all the players through the years,” said McVean. “They are the ones that have responded over the years and deserve all the credit.”

Now in his 35th season at RIT, McVean led the Tigers to 19 consecutive winning seasons from 1991-2010. He has guided RIT to six Empire 8 Conference championships and six NCAA Division III Tournament appearances. He is a two-time National Association of Basketball Coaches East Region Coach of the Year and seven-time Empire 8 Coach of the Year.

He was inducted into the RIT Sports Hall of Fame in 2011 and three years later, earned entrance into the prestigious Frontier Field Walk of Fame. 

“Coach McVean’s 500th win is more than a milestone,” said Lou Spiotti, executive director of Intercollegiate Athletics. “It’s a tribute to a career of dedication, commitment to the game of collegiate basketball and to the idea of the scholar athlete. I admire his competitive spirit, endurance and commitment to his student-athletes and congratulate him for all he has accomplished.”
