Flying is among the safest ways to travel. But despite that, we all know a traveler who may get a little nervous at 30,000 feet. That’s OK. Especially if Floyd Dean-Shannon is working on your flight.

Floyd, a Delta Connection flight attendant with Delta subsidiary Endeavor Air, was surprised this week when he shot to internet fame – a photo that depicts his selfless kindness going viral.

That now-viral picture was taken on Jan. 14 on a Delta Connection flight from Charlotte, North Carolina, to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). Floyd is seen sitting in the aisle next to a nervous passenger named Shannon seated in 4C as the flight encountered some turbulence.

“Hey, I have you,” Floyd tells her.

Floyd stayed with Shannon throughout the flight, offering an explanation for every bump and sound along the way. His care and personal attention to this nervous flier providing her some comfort in the face of anxiety.

"We are touched by the kindness shown by this flight attendant, working on a Delta Connection flight, and proud that this humanity is displayed by our people every day,” said Delta Chief Experience Officer Allison Ausband. “Delta and its partners are dedicated to embodying warmth and care – the Delta Difference – to ensure our customers enjoy a premium overall experience."

While the moment seemed extraordinary to social media onlookers for Floyd, it was just another day of serving his customers. That sense of service comes naturally for him. Though he’s only been a flight attendant for three months, he previously served customers as the manager of a restaurant.

"As a flight attendant, you set the tone," Floyd said. "My goal is to be the best flight attendant I can be.”

Since Floyd’s moment, his story has taken flight, even being interviewed on “CNN This Morning.”

Floyd and Shannon are now friends on Facebook, forging a digital bond that will go on for years. “She now wants me with her on every single flight,” he said.

While Floyd's schedule won't allow him to accompany her on every flight, he plans to be that same caretaker for every customer he meets. “As a passenger, I would want to be treated the same way,” he said. “I have to remember; I was in that seat, too."
