I feel so bad for him. I can only imagine how difficult this must be, but it seems like he's putting on a brave face in-spite of it.

ALS is horrible, I just lost a family friend to this disease. Unfortunately, currently there is no cure and no way to reverse the progression.
I hope he enjoys the time he has left to the fullest and that his passing is peaceful and pain-free. |

Absolutely devastating... I lost a family member to ALS several years ago and it's terrifying what it does. I'm guessing his case progressed to the point where his throat couldn't be trusted to keep food and air reliably separated.
I wish him all the best and hope that there has been some sort of progress with managing or slowing its progression. |

Considering he's at the point of using a voice program, I think the voice is 100% done for, at this point. Even if it could be recovered, though, I'd imagine it wouldn't sound much like how it used to, either. Sad to hear about this, but at least he's keeping up a good spirit regarding it and it's good to see he's still alive. |

Losing your voice, has to be the most frustrating thing imaginable. Text to speech can only give listeners a basic idea as to what you are saying, but you wouldn't be able to easily add inflections to suggest you are happy/mad or inquisitive, or the difference between polite/rude.

ALS, aka Lou Gehrig's disease, is that Ice Bucket Challenge a few years back
May he live the rest of his life to the fullest. The FDA recently approved a controversial new drug designed to slow the progress of the disease. It may not help him in time, but hopefully those in the future. |

I hope he has a fulfilling rest of his life like Steven Hawking; I lost my aunt a few weeks ago to this disease, and it's painful to watch.

Any loss of function with ALS is a one-way trip. I'm a baseball fan and I've been following the story of Sarah Langs. She was diagnosed in 2021 after more than a year of experiencing symptoms. She went public before the most recent playoffs after people began commenting on her voice sounding off. The only drugs on the market buy patients a few months at best. |
