Kang the Conqueror witnessed a timequake that teased a few dark futures for Marvel’s heroes in 2023's Timeless. While Kang is obviously best known for his accomplishments as a conqueror, some fans might forget that he is also a genius which makes him as dangerous as his futuristic armies.

Magneto's incredible mutant abilities earned him respect, though he remained a threat for years due to his brilliant and inventive mind. While there have been a few different villains who have used the Green Goblin identity over the years, Norman Osborn was the first. He was a cutthroat corporate businessman who dreamed of becoming a crime boss. He's one of Spider-Man's greatest villains, though his menace has grown to threaten the Avengers and the rest of the Marvel universe over the years as well.

While Osborn is known for his dark political tactics and evil schemes against Spider-Man, he's also a brilliant inventor. Osborn designed the strength-enhancing Goblin formula, though its imperfections also led to his growing mental instability. He also designed the glider and weaponry that he used as Green Goblin, which was also stolen by villains like Hobgoblin.

9 Kang The Conqueror Is An Inventive Super-Genius

Kang the Conqueror first appeared in the "Age of Heroes" as a warrior from the future with high-tech weaponry and an army gathered from across time. However, it was also clear that he had an advanced intellect which helped him become one of the Avengers' most iconic villains.

Fans eventually learned that Kang was potentially a descendant of either Mister Fantastic or Doctor Doom named Nathaniel Richards. Both of his potential relatives could have passed on their own inventive genius to Kang. Even when he was younger, Nathaniel had the knowledge to reconfigure his future self’s technology to return to the past as the advanced hero Iron Lad.

8 M.O.D.O.K. Wasn't Only Designed For Killing

Fans of M.O.D.O.K. know that the character has a long history with the criminal organization known as Advanced Idea Mechanics. This usually requires a higher intellect as A.I.M. recruits brilliant scientists to further their evil goals. A.I.M. transformed George Tarleton into a mutated being originally known as the Mental Organism Designed Only for Computing/M.O.D.O.C.

Tarleton's extreme mutation increased the size of his cranium while deforming the rest of his body. He turned away from his initial programming to become the Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing/M.O.D.O.K. He still had an incredible intelligence that he used to take control of A.I.M., though he became better known for the weapons of death in his advanced life support chair.

Aleksei Sytsevich was The Rhino, who was usually known for his incredible strength and impenetrable hide that permanently covered his entire body. Rhino briefly gained an incredibly enhanced intellect due to a scientific experiment in the “Flowers for Rhino” storyline. With his incredible strength and increasing intelligence, Rhino quickly became a powerful and effective crime boss. However, he grew bored with his life as an intellectual due to the lack of challenge, so he reversed the experiment to experience happiness again.

When The Mandarin discovered his alien weaponry, he also found a crashed Makluan spaceship filled with advanced technology. He spent years studying Makluan science which allowed him to create even more powerful weaponry. He designed a powerful flying fortress known as the Dragon of Heaven as well as a satellite and space station packed with doomsday weapons.

There are a few iconic Spider-Man villains like Norman Osborn and Doctor Octopus who are well-known for their technological and scientific expertise. However, the powerful abilities of sometimes laughable villains like The Spot often overshadowed their enhanced intelligence over the years.

Dr. Jonathan Ohnn was a criminal scientist working for The Kingpin. He designed a device that he hoped would allow him to replicate Cloak’s ability to access the Darkforce Dimension. Ohnn succeeded in accessing another dimension, but it transformed him. Mini-portals covered his body that he could control as The Spot, which led most to forget he was a brilliant M.I.T. graduate.

Dr. Eliot Franklin was a former physicist before he became Thunderball. Franklin was in the same respected fields as Bruce Banner due to his creation of a miniature gamma-ray bomb. He even initially became a criminal to fund his scientific research before he was empowered with incredible strength.

He has a wide range of powers at his disposal, including shape-shifting, super strength, and energy projection. However, Apocalypse is also a brilliant genius who wasn't just transformed by his encounter with Celestial technology. He mastered the alien technology and used it to further enhance other mutants, transforming them into powerful Horsemen who have served him for centuries. Apocalypse even helped save the X-Men with his wealth of knowledge in the Krakoan Era.

However, one of Thnoas' greatest assets is his brilliant tactical mind, as well as his inventive genius. Thanos is usually one step ahead of his enemies and has almost succeeded in a number of multi-layered schemes over the years. Thanos also has a unique cosmic awareness that keeps him in tune with the various events occurring in the universe at any given time.
