Friends star Matthew Perry has promised to remove his comments about John Wick's Keanu Reeves from future editions of his recent memoir.

Per Entertainment Weekly, the man behind Chandler Bing regrets insulting Reeves in the prose of his memoir published late last year. He has promised that future editions of the book will no longer include the jab at the actor, with Perry admitting that he had "said a stupid thing." Perry previously issued a public apology to Reeves and claimed he would apologize to him in person if he ever ran into him.

What Did Matthew Perry Say About Keanu Reeves?

The comments from Perry's autobiographical book touched on celebrity deaths, with a passage discussing a collection of well-known actors who died before their time. Perry mentioned Stand by Me's River Phoenix and The Dark Knight's Heath Ledger, claiming that it was the "really talented guys who go down." He then doubled down on this by writing, "Why is it that original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves still walks among us?"

He repeated this sentiment later in the book when discussing his reaction to the death of Chris Farley, stating, "I punched a hole through Jennifer Aniston's dressing room wall when I found out. Keanu Reeves walks among us." Perry later noted that despite these comments, he was "actually a big fan of Keanu" and that he chose to use him as an example randomly because they live on the same street. "It was a mean thing to do," he stated, claiming that he "should have used my own name instead."

The title of Perry's book is Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing. It features anecdotes from the popular comedy actor covering his time in the TV industry and his struggles with addiction, painting an honest discussion of his well-documented battles with substance abuse. Reviews of the novel have been positive, with The Daily Mail claiming, "There's never been a more honest or raw memoir," and The Times calling it "funny, fascinating, compelling… also a wonderful read for fans of Friends."

Reeves, meanwhile, is currently experiencing success after the release of the latest installment in the John Wick series, with the franchise's fourth film gaining great reviews. In addition, multiple spinoffs based inside the film's universe are currently in the works, including Ballerina and The Continental.
