The new first-person shooter game from Ubisoft, XDefiant, is getting quite a lot of buzz from shooter fans despite only being in a closed beta phase. Fans have been really enjoying clips and streams for the games with the hopes that they can also get their hands on a copy of the game soon. In the game, players fight as Defiant, various factions based on groups from other Ubisoft intellectual properties, so they have been really excited to see references from some of their favorite Ubisoft games.

The Libertad, one of the five factions in the game, is a group of Freedom Fighters based on Far Cry 6 who take on support roles in the games. They can heal themselves and their allies with their passive traits, active abilities, and ultimate abilities, making them perfect for players who might take a few hits while in battle. Along with their Caribbean-inspired origins connected to Far Cry 6, eagle-eyed fans might have noticed the default character in the Libertad may be referencing a figure from the game's deeper lore.

Far Cry 6's Hidden Histories Paint the Story of Revolution

Although Far Cry 6 is a first-person shooter game, it has many elements of role-playing games like leveling systems and side-quests. Another element that it has in common is that the game is filled with various types of collectibles. One such type is the Hidden Histories collectibles, which explain the history of the fictional Caribbean island of Yara that the game takes place on, and it's within this set where players can find a series called "Her Revolution."

This collectible series in particular follows an Afro-Yaran slave named Iselda who led a revolution on the island, eventually freeing them from Spanish rule. According to the lore, Iselda is almost something of a legend in Yara as not much is known about her besides her revolutionary activities. The collectibles go into a reasonable amount of detail in regard to both Iselda and the revolution, enriching the deep cultural history of this fictional nation.

XDefiant References Far Cry 6's Revolutionary With a Shared Name

The Libertad Freedom Fighter on the XDefiant faction description screen

The default character for Libertad in XDefiant is named Iselda, just like the revolutionary that the "Her Revolution" artifact series is centered on. This is very clearly a reference to this rather deep piece of lore from Far Cry 6. However, it's not likely it's the exact same Iselda that led the Yaran revolution against the island's Spanish oppressors, since the Iselda from Far Cry 6 is from a deeper historical setting than the one that XDefiant gives her.

What's more likely is that the character from XDefiant is a modern freedom fighter adopting the name of this revered historical figure. This is fascinating, as it indicates a kind of self-referencing, wherein the original Iselda was so well-known, influential, and important that future generations of freedom fighters honored her in such ways as this.

While XDefiant is still yet to be fully released, this reference to a deep piece of Far Cry 6 lore likely indicates that lore from other games will be referenced as well, which is sure to get even more fans excited, combing through content for Easter eggs.
