Profiles in Duty

Naval Service, Leadership, and Sacrifice

The Wheels
"The Wheels," drawing, colored pencil on paper, by Herbert C. Hahn, c. 1951 (88-191-CI).

The following U.S. Navy personnel, some known and some unknown, shared more than a common uniform. Under often difficult and dangerous circumstances, all of them carried out their duty to the service and their shipmates. In doing so, they met and overcame seemingly overwhelming challenges on ship, shore, and in the air, displaying initiative, toughness, and courage, ranging from the service's beginnings in 1775 to the present day.
