It’s been nearly three years since Walmart launched Walmart Plus, its yearly membership program that offers subscribers everything from in-home grocery delivery to discounts at the gas pump. An early adopter of the program, I’ve been a Walmart Plus user since its September 2020 launch, and have saved money and time through my membership. Each year when my Walmart Plus membership renews, there’s no question in my mind about whether to continue subscribing or to cancel.

Walmart Plus is a perfect companion to any family who shops at Walmart, depends on the store for its low grocery prices, or wants fast, free shipping for orders placed through Walmart.com. Add with discounts on fuel, video streaming memberships, early access to deals, and more, and the less-than-$100 annual cost for Walmart Plus is well worth it. In our years as Walmart Plus members, my family has used the service for everything from shipping a new TV to our home quickly to binge-watching shows like "Mayor of Kingstown" and "1923" on Paramount Plus.

What is Walmart Plus?

Walmart Plus is similar to Amazon Prime in its membership format. Members pay a monthly or yearly fee to receive Walmart Plus benefits and discounts only available to those who sign up for the service. In addition to deals and delivery perks from Walmart, members receive discounts on fuel and third party services, as well as free returns from home, the ability to quickly scan and pay in Walmart retail stores on their mobile phone, and more.

What are the benefits of Walmart Plus?

Walmart Plus members receive lots of benefits and perks, the most time-saving of which is free home delivery on fresh groceries and other in-store Walmart products. Simply shop online or in the Walmart app, and select a delivery time. For this benefit, orders must total $35 or more.

Members also receive fast, free shipping (usually just two or three days) on hundreds of products sold via Walmart.com, special rewards on select products at Walmart stores, the ability to scan and pay in-store using the Walmart app, early access to sales and deals, and free, easy returns from home. There are also discounts on fuel at select gas stations, as well as video streaming through both Paramount Plus and Pluto TV.

Walmart Plus members also receive special third party discount offers from companies like ABC Mouse, SiriusXM, Pawp pet care, Cinemark theaters, and more.

How much does Walmart Plus cost?

Unlike Amazon Prime’s annual fee (which seems to rise each year) Walmart Plus has remained just $98 annually since its launch. There’s also an option to join Walmart Plus for a monthly fee of $12.95. Additional taxes may apply to the annual or monthly fee, and members are free to cancel their membership at any time.

Does Walmart Plus include Paramount Plus?

Walmart Plus users also receive a Paramount Plus Essential Plan, which offers access to the streaming service’s full catalog of more than 30,000 movies and shows, but does not include live TV streaming. Users of this plan must also watch ads. In order to access your Paramount Plus subscription, log into the service through the Walmart Plus website and agree to share the details of your membership with Paramount Plus for validation.

Does Walmart Plus include Sam’s Club membership?

While Walmart Plus does not include a Sam’s Club membership, fuel discounts are available at Sam’s Club fuel stations. Other gas stations that participate in the Walmart Plus fuel discount are Walmart, Exxon, Mobil, Murphy USA, and Murphy Express.

What’s the difference between Walmart Plus and Amazon Prime?

In addition to the seemingly always-rising annual fee of Amazon Prime, the service often feels tied to the Amazon app and website. With membership, Walmart Plus opens up in-store savings and opportunities for Walmart shoppers such as mobile scan and pay check-out, and early access to in-store deals on days like Black Friday and beyond. Amazon may partner with grocery stores like Whole Foods and operate physical stores like Amazon Go in select locations, but Walmart’s widespread popularity and myriad of locations makes in-store discounts through Walmart Plus seem much more accessible.

When Walmart Plus members order fresh grocery items for home delivery, a Walmart employee in their nearest store shops the order by hand, choosing exactly what’s on the list, or a similar substitution if a product is sold out. Within hours, that grocery order gets delivered to the member’s home, ready to be put away and used throughout the week.

While Amazon Prime offers services like Prime Video, Walmart Plus partners with providers like Paramount Plus and Pluto TV to offer video streaming to members. But one of the savings available to Walmart Plus members that’s meant the most to my family is the fuel discount. With so many gas stations participating in the 10-cents-per-gallon discount program, there’s always somewhere close by where I can save on gas when it’s time to fill up.

Ready to try Walmart Plus yourself? The service offers a free 30-day trial for new customers, making it easy to spend a month really digging into all of the Walmart Plus benefits to see if the program is a fit for your family’s spending needs.
