It’s not the most difficult of games, as Kirby titles generally aren’t, but it is enormous fun, and up there as one of my all-time favourite 3DS titles.

Kirby: Planet Robobot is an excellent 3DS action platform game. It has all the charm you want from a Kirby game, but with more puzzles and action. It’s my favorite Kirby game, and is one of the best games to release this year. Simply put: Kirby: Planet Robobot is amazing.

Kirby: Planet Robobot was a pleasant surprise, no doubt, but especially as someone who could generally look at a Kirby game and take it or leave it. It's one thing to please fans, but to win over indifference is kind of a big deal to me.

Kirby Planet Robobot continues the excellence and consistent fun and variety of the Kirby series from the past few years. It tightens up established mechanics and adds some great new ideas, which all comes together into one of the most enjoyable and genuinely friendly games I’ve played all year.

What an absolute joy to play through. With Kirby: Planet Robobot, Nintendo and HAL have delivered not only a standard Kirby platform outing for Nintendo 3DS that matches the usual high quality levels found throughout the series, but have managed to bring many new elements into the mix to ensure that this is the freshest Kirby to date, merging clever ideas from other genre stable-mates with the traditional qualities everyone knows and loves.

There’s a careful balance between sticking to a series’ roots at the risk of getting stale, and pushing boundaries at the risk of straying from what made the series great to start with – but that’s a tightrope Kirby’s been walking effortlessly for 25 years.

Kirby: Planet Robobot is yet another Kirby game, which I personally consider a positive. The new abilities and mechanized gimmickry are huge fun to fiddle around with, boss encounters are beautifully delivered, and the level design is some of the series’ most accomplished.

All this praise and I’m mostly referring to the single player main story, but with its bevy of other cool unlockable modes and the multiplayer party like games available, there is so much content here, it’s a great price for an absolutely jam packed 3DS cartridge.

Planet Robobot may not be the most challenging platformer around, but its clever use of robotic destruction combined with gorgeous environmental puzzles and unique bosses make for an entertaining ride. If ain't broke, don't fix it: HAL Laboratory took that to the heart when they developed Planet Robobot, an extremely derivative sequel to the excellent Triple Deluxe. Kirby's new adventure is a fun and rich one, but it plays too safe the mechs featured do not really add that much to the same old structure.

Planet Robobot's meager difficulty may feel like a turn off at times, but it's not a reason to write it off. Once you spend time sampling the large selection of powers in each stage, taking in the detailed visuals, the catchy soundtrack, and exploring the wealth of extra modes on hand, you are so focused on the game's pervasive charm that you're looking forward to the next delightful surprise, rather than praying for a grueling test of skill. Planet Robobot is another great feather in Kirby's cap that shouldn't be overlooked.

Kirby: Planet Robobot is a refreshing addition to the Kirby series which brings some welcome changes to its level design. Its gameplay is varied and involving and its visual environment is nothing short of delightful. While its overall difficulty is not as high as it would be desirable and its extra modes could go further, Planet Robobot stands out as a fundamental title for any fans of the Kirby series.

In spite of the recycled, hence reliable machinery, Kirby: Planet Robobot is simply mecha powerful.
  53. 80
Kirby: Planet Robobot is a great new addition to the classic series. Aside from the new mech suit it doesn't do a whole lot different from its predecessors, but that shouldn't bother those who just want another great 2D platformer for their 3DS collection.

Planet Robobot is entertaining, flows well, and never overstays its new mechanics… but occasionally feels like a retread with a mechanical theme. It does find something to differentiate itself, however, with its ending which takes a surprising leap from the established Kirby norms for a wholly surprising and engaging climax. The game extends past its final boss with completely different gameplay that works as a great finale.

Kirby: Planet Robobot might be easy, but it’s an equally satisfying platformer to play on the go with the 3DS. It’s an adventure that the round pick hero begs you to join him on, and you’d be hard pressed to be dissatisfied with the journey.

Kirby: Planet Robobot isn’t too deep, but it doesn’t need to be. It captures the fun, jovial nature of its titular character, and breathes some life into an otherwise tepid formula. It’s brief and hardly earth-shatteringly unique, but it’s fun in the way a Kirby game ought to be.

Kirby Planet Robobot tries to bring some new features, and that deserves to be said. Nothing crazy of course, but it gives this new entry an identity for itself. The game is still very easy, is still quite short but it remains a very nice moment of gaming and nobody will ask for his money back.

Kirby Robobot relies on creativity and a "think out of the box" philosophy, adorned with jolly and light-hearted aesthetics. Unfortunately, it's almost too easy to complete the game, especially if you played your fair share of platformers. It's a game that will probably appeal the younger (and less experienced) player.

Kirby: Planet Robobot is a great addition to the franchise, adding a mechanic that doesn’t feel forced and is overall not a terribly shallow package. But looking under the hood the game uses a lot of the same tricks that Kirby Triple Deluxe did and will probably captivate your time about as well. It’s certainly one that younger audiences will get a kick out of, but it’s no Kirby’s Fun Pak.

Planet Robobot takes on a similar visual style and we see the return of the duel plain level layout that Triple Deluxe had. But while Planet Robobot takes a lot from Triple Deluxe, it also throws in a few new ideas. The biggest one being the new Robobot Armor that Kirby can ride, which essentially replaces the Hypernova from Triple Deluxe. The Robobot Armor is capable of heavy damage on both enemies and even the environment in some cases and can also copy certain abilities of enemies. And I think it's an awesome feature. On top of normal puzzle rooms that the Kirby series is good with, the Robobot Armor opens up new ideas for new puzzles. However the Robobot Armor can only have a certain amount of abilities and they aren't as diverse as Kirby with said powers, but they are capable of solving unique puzzles. On the topic of copy abilities, the line up in this game is really great, mixing in the series staples such as Fire, Ice, Sword and Beam, adding in new ones such as ESP, Doctor and Poison and reviving some old abilities not seen in a long time, such as Jet, a revamped Smash ability and my personal second favorite of all time, Mirror. The world themes were pretty awesome as well and the added robotic appearance each world had made the areas look really nice. While the main game won't take that long (if you're really dedicated to it), the amount of stuff to do afterwards still makes up for it. The game still isn't that hard either, but the Kirby gameplay itself more than makes up for it in my opinion. So overall, I really loved this game. While generally easy, it's still a fantastic Kirby game with an awesome new feature, an amazing set of copy abilities and classic fun stuff to do when the story is all said and done. Full Review »

Thing about Kirby games is, youYes, this is the BEST Kirby game to date so far - this surpasses any Wii or Wii U Kirby games ever released! Thing about Kirby games is, you actually have fun and enjoy playing the game. It's not about the challenge (otherwise, you'd be playing Monster Hunter or Fire Emblem Fates Conquest on Lunatic Classic mode right?), but it's about the JOY of playing a Kirby game.

Even though I play games like Monster Hunter, I ALWAYS preorder Kirby games simply because it's soooooo therapeutic and makes me feel good playing it - it's relaxing, it's fun, it's cute. It's a truly feel-good game with cute Kirby and solid mechanics in gameplay that is truly enjoyable. The usual copy abilities of Kirby is there, plus there are a few new powers.

However, the new thing this time round is that Kirby dons the mech-suit, and unlike Kirby Triple Deluxe (which was pretty good, but the mega suction felt a little gimmicky and "forced"), the mech-suit actually feels like an integral part of the game, heck, you even have the COPY ability in mech mode, which makes it super super cool and fun. There's a lot of variety in the game, and it feels fresh from one level to another. On top of that you could use the new Kirby amiibos (there are 4) to add some fun copy abilities - I've only got the Kirby amiibo which transforms Kirby into a UFO Kirby.

So why do I buy this game even though it's not a very long game? Because it's a PERFECT game, with PERFECT mechanics and the PERFECT level of fun and cuteness and joy. It's worth every penny I spent on it. Don't hesitate - buy it, and enjoy it immediately - for both kids AND adults!
