If you’re a fan of the first game or want a new third-person shooter with tons of replayability thanks to randomized levels and dungeons, this game is the right choice for you. Remnant 2 might not technically be a looter shooter, but plenty of loot can be found. You have to be willing to go down the spooky alleyway or head into the mysterious hole in the ground and trust you’ll find something cool.

Remnant 2 is a worthy successor, taking everything great about the original and expanding it in several fun ways. There are some blemishes and occasional frustrations, but it's still an engaging world-hopping odyssey.

Remnant 2 feels like a love letter to the fans of the first, with an emphasis on replayability and some new features. The different experiences that the game can generate from one person to the next are impressive, as each run feels unique. Combat feels great, and the freedom in build creation is a huge improvement over its predecessor. Still, some issues with the game's core may leave some disappointed.

Indeed, Remnant 2 will be much more appreciated in multiplayer than alone. The customization possibilities will be multiplied (three characters with double archetypes, it's starting to do things!) And the exploration is made less bland since everyone trains from one place to another. The boss fights are all the more interesting to maneuver without being more complex. Otherwise, Remnant 2 remains quite linear and complex to appreciate, especially since some problems not corrected for the first episode are back. Something difficult to digest four years later. It is therefore difficult to turn to Remnant 2 for a solo experience. However, it shows its full potential in multiplayer to those looking for demanding games that will satisfy their thirst for customization.

So far it seems like a very worthy sequel. It offers more of the same challenging, world-hopping, third-person shooter action, but this time with more choice, more polish, and a variety of gameplay improvements. Fans of Remnant: From the Ashes will lap this up, and newcomers are likely to get a lot of enjoyment from it too – as long as they’re brave and persistent. [Review in Progress]

After roughly 30 hours of playing though, I’m reminded of why I love the soulslike genre and it feels both fresh and familiar. It retains concepts and mechanics that veterans would recognize right from the start, while also offering changes and improvements that make it engaging for newcomers. [Review in Progress]
