Although originally a Nintendo 3DS release, Steamworld Heist has now been released on the Wii U with a nice shiny new coat of paint.

The SteamWorld devs are making a name for themselves for providing addicting, simple gameplay with really cool mechanics. The strategy element in this game, for example, may seem a little basic at first glance. But the ricochet system of bouncing bullets

Lining up your shot JUST right never gets old.

Even though I loved Dig, I expected to be disappointed by the turn-based approach to this one. So glad to be wrong -- it's so much fun. If anything, it's even more addictive than Dig, and more innovative too. Same high-end production values and attention to detail. Lots of difficulty levels make it accessible and provides motivation to move up -- slick that you can change the level forEven though I loved Dig, I expected to be disappointed by the turn-based approach to this one. Great music, compelling characters and a simple upgrading system that works well. I'm looking forward to trying it again with a different strategy...I suspect the replayability will be excellent. STEAMWORLD HEIST is a fantastic but short indie game. It's not my favorite indie game, but it's close.

SteamWorld Heist is a decent length when factoring in the wide range of difficulty settings, and the fact you will be playing some missions a few times. Essentially, this is a well-made squad-based strategy that gives a choice: go in guns blazing…. or go in gun blazing. While the game is heavy on the tactics, it's never heavy on subtlety. It's nice it wastes little time, but it also suffers from a lack of diversity because of it. It's thus probably better for those looking for a game to play on/off rather than binge over.

All in, SteamWorld Heist is a fantastic entry in the turn based strategy genre. The visual style is trademark SteamWorld and shines on the Wii U, while the gameplay feels more direct and impactful thanks to it’s reliance on player aiming rather than chance.

SteamWorld Heist is a stunning work that combines RPG, strategy and accurate aiming in a steampunk space environment that will put the player at the centre of a plot that is heavy in humour and which features a wonderful visual environment, as well as a soundtrack that fits perfectly within the game's universe.
