Tatsunoko vs. Capcom pits Capcom’s iconic characters against Tatsunoko Productions anime superheroes. This clash of heroes face off in two-on-two battles for the ultimate 2D tag-team battle. Originally released in Japanese arcades in the Fall of 2008, the original Tatsunoko vs. Capcom moved to the Wii console on December 11, 2008. This fighter blends these two rich universes by taking Capcom characters like Ryu from Street Fighter, Morrigan from Darkstalkers and the giant PTX-40A from Lost Planet and putting them against Tatsunoko fan-favorite characters from Gatchaman, Hurricane Polymar, Casshern and more. It’s a battler oyale that delivers match-ups that only exist in fans wildest dreams! Unlike the more well-known six-button layout that the Street Fighter franchise pioneered, the VS line features a simplified four button system: Weak, Medium, Strong and Assist for the tag-team option of. The Assist feature adds another compelling element found Capcom’s other VS series: allowing players to switch their character on the fly or call for help from their tag-team partner, allowing for spectacular super moves (Hyper Variable Combination). Successful execution of the Assist feature can turn the tide of battle on a dime. Historically the VS series excels in integrating the tag-team options by including customized moves like Variable Assist, Snapback, and the previously mentioned Hyper Variable combination that lets both characters on one team perform their Hyper attack. TvC enhances the above gameplay with new mechanics, including the Variable Aerial Rave that allows characters to be switched in the middle of an Aerial rave. More moves include the offensive Assault and defensive maneuver Mega Crash. Another new gameplay mechanic, titled Baroque, illuminates the character in a rainbow of colors, cancels the current attack and extends combos and damage. Featuring a robust line-up of characters, the console version added four mini-games and optional control schemes. [Capcom] Expand

  1. If you have a Wii and have complained at the lack of mainstream / hardcore games, look no further as Capcom has you covered with Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All Stars. TvC may be the most complete package available on Nintendo's console right now.
  2. A fantastic fighting game which appears basic at first but has a very deep technical side to it.
  3. A better game than its Japanese counterpart, with more characters, improved balance, and online play. Due to the slightly uneven graphics and the occasional downgrade from the original version of the title, I can't say it's a perfect game, but it's damn close.
  4. This game is about brutally beating your opponents into unconsciousness with your fists and feet, shooting them, burning them and electrocuting them, over and over and over again. The title music sounds just like my little sister’s 10th birthday party. We’re in for some fun here.

Loads of variety, some of the most spectacular moves we've seen and a control system that lets everyone get the best out of it. Aces.! [Jan 2010, p.70]
  6. Fighting genre fans who spent countless hours mastering the intricacies of the Street Fighter Alpha, Guilty Gear, or King of Fighters series may find Tatsunoko vs. Capcom's control layout to be too forgiving and easily learned, but at the very least it gives casual fans a taste of the maniacal action that they never experienced with the more hardcore titles. Tatsunoko vs Capcom is a solid entry in the Vs Capcom line and certainly worth experiencing for die-hard Capcom fighting fans, but has a few little rough spots that could have benefited from extra effort.

GRAPHICS: clean, fast, amazing- 10/10. ACTION: Fights are fasted paced and unpredictable, the variety of characters is great, and the mini-games are awesome. Basically everything you could want out of a fighter- 10/10. MECHANICS: The controls (Classic Pro) are easy to learn unlike some other fighting games. Special moves are easy to learn and each character has their own style- 10/10. EXTRAS: Having half a cast of relatively unknown characters makes the game BETTER in my opinion. No preconceived notions about who should be good, better than X, or whatever and no nerd rage when Magneto doesn't instantly (instantly) kill Iron Man. Having what are essentially blank slates gives the player (or maybe just me) the chance to make up their own stories for the characters, like how Tekkaman is fighting for gay robot marriage- 10/10. But there are a handful of fighting games that are near perfect. Tatsunoko vs Capcom (TvC) is one of them. There are only a few minor problems, the main one is that not many people know or even heard about Tatsunoko, therefore some of the characters will be brand new to the gamer. Secondly, like nearly all fighting games, there isn't much of a story. Well for the majority of this game, it is excellent. The graphics are good (for Wii), the fighting is intense and very addictive, the hyper specials are awesome and multiplayer is just great. If you are a die-hard fighting game expert or you're still a rookie this game would fit perfectly into your Wii games collection. Expand

There isn'tThe shallow fighting game will be enjoyed by hardcore fans, but anyone else will be mystified by its sheer lackluster gameplay. There isn't enough content for a $40 pricetag, especially in the terms of characters. There is are three or so standard modes of "story" (there really isn't any, if you're wondering), arcade, and versus. They're all more or less decent, but get into the the gameplay and problems arise. Firstly, the two character swap out of place and useless. It's actually reallllly annoying, and can drag down any good match. The backdrops are poorly done and uncreative, just like the rest of the game. It's still fun... kinda... but the constant sticky controls, icky graphics, and lack of desirable content just makes it another mediocre installment in the capcom fighting franchise. Expand
