The game strikes that perfect balance between calmer moments in which you are just exploring the environment in search of secrets and intense fight sequences with multiple enemies or memorable bosses.     I don't get the hype! It's an OK game which, when you consider it was made by 2 people (I think?), looks really good. But the fun quickly dries up as the game becomes repetitive. Boss fights are great, just wish the rest of the game didn't feel like "filler".

    Combat is fun and u really need to use your head for some of the boss fights
    Alot of riddles and hidden stuff is rewarding exploration and backtracking
    Music and graphics are fantastic
    And not a single bug or crash

    This is a fantastic game. Made by 2 devs and just the artstyle and music makes this one of the best games this year. And then there is the gameplay aswell. Fantastic.

    This game was a big surprise for me, the gameplay feels amazing and the visuals are simple but beautiful. It’s not perfect, but worthy of your time. Also, the soundtrack is amazing.

    A good isometric light rpg. I say light because the rpg elements are not that deep. The gameplay is fun and the art style is fantastic. Music is definitely 10/10. But it gets a little redundant towards the end. Would recommend.

    So many game's try and fail, so many with a big budget or a AAA rating. When a game keeps you wanting and puts a big smile on you face when you finish it, you know its worth that AAA rating to you.

    Decent game. Liked it, but did not love it. Plays very similar to old school action platformers, with interesting theme and a cool art-style. It has overly simple combat but has a decent challenge. Lack of mini-map is frustrating, as getting lost and running in circles in this world is not enticing enough.     The game is fabulous but the endgame has some problems. After the main campaign is complete, you have the task to collect some key objects, but the game iventory does not keep track of them, you also need to plant all seeds in the game, which was a big chore without QoL tools other than the glowing object in the menu (which could be brought to the HUD instead).     One that is highly skill based, this game is difficult, it will test you.. but it’s a fun difficult, it isn’t frustrating.. Deaths Door is highly beatable with patience.. you kill enemies, youl lfind keyholes that you can activate creating a door or a checkpoint, you can go through this door to regain your health as well as spend your collected souls on upgrading you character, making them stronger or faster, youll be going through what feels like convoluted mazes, again collecting souls, throwing switches, youll find seeds that you can plant in these pots to regain health as well, but if you die you restart at the last door you opened.. which thankfully isn’t too far away.. the game does a great job at spacing these doors out and allowing you to unlock shortcuts as you progress souls style.. and thankfully you do keep all of your souls even if you die, you don’t have to go recollect them.. but this game is great, its fast, its fluent, it demands patience, it demands learning enemies and their attack patterns.. never feeling cheap except for one enemy you fight a couple of times… that enemy is garbage and feels almost random.. but other than him, I loved deaths door, I loved climbing through these dungeons, collecting souls, freeing trapped souls, taking down bosses, getting to the games main targets, all of which are filled with such great charm, this is a really great world put together here.. my only gripe with deaths door however is just how in general “linear” has become a word of sin in the games industry and indie teams cant help themselves but make every level of every game feel like a giant overwhelming puzzle and maze.. and deaths door is no exception.. im fine with climbing ladders, figuring out routes, breaking walls, creating shortcuts, collecting keys, unlocking gates, backtrack and do what I have to do.. but when that’s the entire game, its exhausting, its tiring, it discourages me from wanting to press on… I need a break.. give me just one linear section now and then, please.. I have a tiny brain, I cant be doing puzzles and mazes for 10 hours straight, I nearly died myself.
    Jokes aside, Deaths Door is a really special game that deserves your attention, but be warned, there will be moments if youre anything like me, where the game will just throw up on your screen and overwhelm you with all there seems to do to be able to move on.. and a lack of any sort of map doesn’t help in this feeling..
    I give Deaths Door

    This game is a wonderful adventure. With great combat, a haunting soundtrack, and a heartfelt wistful atmosphere.

    The real joy in this game is in its simplicity. The game is not overly complicated and has a simple control scheme. There is not much to confuse the player or overwhelm them. Instead, the fun of the game is in the exploration, the combat, and the collecting. Really great experience.

    Fun and charming little Action-Adventure with Dark Souls- and roguelike-influences that manages to be challenging without ever getting into the realm of overly frustrating. Would've reeeeaaaaally benefited from a map, though, especially since the isometric perspective makes it hard to navigate because your field of view is very limited.

    It has been a long time since I have gotten excited over a game.
    It feels addicting & rewarding at the same time.
    It feels like a Souls like game with Zelda if you know what I mean.
    You get incredible value because of it’s price.
    A must buy for any into gaming tbh.

    I liked the aesthetic and music but the combat is what ruined the game for me, its just so simplistic and uninspired. Just the same ol dodge hit, dodge hit strategy for everything with no variation other than ranged attacks which do so little damage that they're worthless.     Audio: The audio of this game deserves a special applaud. The music is so soothing and calm. The music selection and the instruments that are played in the background are amazing.

    Ray tracing: Death's door ray tracing is implemented so well! Although this is more like a 2d platformer rather than a AAA game like resident evil, there were times where the ray tracing was so good that I had to stop for a moment to take a screenshot.

    Level Design: The level design is spectacular with great attention to details in the levels. Even when an enemy dies, the faces make a very interesting face like a meme face. Loved that detail. Loved the concept of short cuts so that you don't need to traverse the entire level again. Oh, and why do I feel like mentioning dark souls here for moment, this game is filled with secret doors/paths sort of similar to dark souls for which you need to keep coming back to the previous levels after you got better upgrades.

    Dialogue delivery: Most of the games miss this and don't understand how important it is to have a good dialogue delivery. Sony understood this and it kind of made their exclusives so famous. Apart from Rift apart, Death's door has great dialogue delivery with great sense of humor.

    Bosses: The bosses are interesting and I loved the design of the second boss(the building boss). Bosses design feel fluid as it's running at 60fps. I cannot say more than this to avoid spoilers.

    Over all, Death's door excels at most of the aspects that make a game good and this game absolutely deserves a 10.    … Expand

    Brilliant game. The core gameplay is perfectly balanced. A little tough but always fair, you learn and come back and do better next time, yet it never gets frustrating. Add to that wonderful artistry, level design, soundtrack and more and this is one you don't want to sleep on. My game of 2021

    Death Door is a nice surprise. Aesthetically very beautiful both in scenarios and in characters (which are also very charismatic). A story that at first seems to be simple but becomes very deep at the end of the game. Gameplay is not lacking and is very fluid.

It is a bit metroidy. As you play through the game you get more weapons/magic/skills and can open up new paths to get to areas previously locked off. It is not perfect and could use with more collectables, power ups, moves, and weapons, but it is worth the $20 to play, hands down.     It's hard to imagine that this little masterpiece was made by such a small team. It does what other games with huge budgets often fail to do. Its been a while since a game last made me want to unlock everything that effortlessly.
    I absolutely love it. Addictive, humorous, sometimes touching, very fun gameplay and wonderful music.
    This is my GOTY so far.
