Blasphemous 2 is not for the faint of heart. The battles can be difficult at times - to a controller-breaking level. However, if you’re a fan of the stresses and strains found in Souls-like games and are willing to learn the moves inside out, then this Metroidvania will reward you with beautiful finishing kills and adrenaline-filled boss fights.

Blasphemous 2 is a purist metroidvania, with an emphasis on exploration, that surpasses its predecessor without leaving aside everything that made it unique. It is fun, challenging, spectacular and better balanced.

This is a must-play game for all Metroidvania enthusiasts. The sequel gets rid of the problems of the first entry and manages to push further beyond all of its virtues. There's almost no flaws at all in Blasphemous 2: the game boasts incredibly addictive gameplay, fun misteries, exploration and a bearable yet challenging difficulty. It can certainly be considered amongst the best Metroidvania games of all time.

Blasphemous 2 is one of the best metroidvanias ever. The Game Kitchen has outdone itself in every way to create a masterful sequel to the second pilgrimage of the Penitent One.

A sequel that first of all thinks about smoothing out the previous imperfections, before offering a series of very well implemented innovations overall.

Though Blasphemous 2 lacks the wow factor of the first game, it does smooth out its edges to the point where it feels like a tighter, more fluid experience.

Blasphemous 2 is more ambitious than its predecessor with its fleshed-out swordplay and cleaner dedication to the search action genre. And while these additions give Blasphemous 2 more of an identity, they also give it more room to stumble. Said deeper combat is sticky and held back by its dedication to being adjacent to the soulslike genre. Its narrative tries to broaden the game’s world but suffers because of its lack of a solid recap and overreliance on cryptic storytelling. It’s an artistically sublime world but seemingly pays penitence with its uneven gameplay.

Almost everything Is an improvement from the First game. The soundtrack Is beautiful, the pixel art Is really detailed and the animations are fluid. The combat system has improved too and Is more fun and offers more possibilities to approach a fight. The enemies are diverse (except for a couple of reskins). The boss fight (although sometimes a bit Easy) are very fun and well designed. The exploration Is as good as the original but at least spikes don't kill in One hit anymore. The only downgrades from the original in my opinioni are the inventory, that Is less detailed then the One in the First game, and the lack of finisher animations (the animations are good but only some enemies have them). The atmosphere Is in general less dark and there are more vibrant areas, but the game still has his dark moments. The cutscenes are now animated, I personally like It but that Is up to you. In conclusion a great and fun game, really looking forward to the DLCs that Will definitely improve this game even more. Expand

A worthy follow-up, which improves in almost every way. Varied weapons, skill tree, a nice mix of platforming to complement the combat. IA worthy follow-up, which improves in almost every way. Varied weapons, skill tree, a nice mix of platforming to complement the combat. I would appreciate more standard enemies instead of just variants (different colour with different element of damage). The bosses are overall fair and generally well telegraphed, although the difficulty curve starts well, then seems to go all over the place, as with later bosses feeling far easier than beginning (this could be from reflexes improved or better abilities/magic). This can be apparent with enemies later that their main difficulty is they take half your health bar with a hit (yes, this can be mitigated with appropriate items etc).

Audio and music are serviceable, yet I felt I loved the music more this time round. If you are a completionist, this game is very doable, however, there is some very obscure achievements/items that seem a little too vague just because they can, such as the finding of 10 hidden symbols. The NPC's and bosses and some death animations are still grotesque as ever. The Game Kitchen took to heart feedback from the original and made this truly what defines a sequel. Worth the price point and can't wait for DLC (there was 3 in the original). Kudos devs.
