simply one of the greatest works of fiction ever filmed. the one show in history that will cause you to go back and ponder each scene, never mind each episode. if TV had such a thing as poetry this would be it. I am 60 years old and this series is in my all time top 5, maybe top 3

Beautiful. The most apt word to describe this perfect, little gem of a series. I have been entranced by this show from the beginning, with its characters, its nuances, its willingness to dive deep into the human experience. This season is sure to end the series on the high note it has always ridden, and it is truly bitter sweet.

Just finished watching 1st episode of season 4,never have i ever watched anything as emotionally & mentally engaging as this, have so far watched some of the best shows on TV,likes of sopranos, the wire, mad men, breaking bad,homicide-life on the streets, despite a very modest premise rectify has been the best tv series to showcase the human connection of sorts in a very real & profound way possible.

I am sure I am not the first one to notice or write this, and it may sound pompous, but Rectify is to American television drama what Dostoyevsky was to Russian literature. This modern take on "the Idiot" is just the most positive sign that American television can really grow into a major art form.

This entire show is so full of meaning, is so authentic and raw that it's almost unbearable to watch. But if you do watch, and you are open to it, your heart sores as simultaneously it breaks - and isn't that why we're here?

To the writers of this modern masterpiece, bravo.

This TV show is criminally underseen. One of the best series I have ever watched. It has touched and moved me deeply so many times. Masterful writing and directing, brilliant acting. I wished it lasted for more seasons, but I loved the way it ended. I will miss this show terribly.

Rectify is the most humane show in the history of television, period. Never a drama can be so raw and touching as Daniel Holden's story. It's sad to watch it go but ultimately makes sense.

Rectify will forever stay in my heart as an absolute masterpiece in television series. The story of a man who once was on death row and now has to find a place in the world again is very moving and tragic. Rectify shows a side of US that we usually dont get to see, the side of hardworking people who struggle to survive.

The finest show I've ever watched. Deeply emotional and psychological. Rectify shows human connections unlike any other show. Absolutely realistic, no redundant action movie styled scenes. You just have to see it.

Rectify explores 8 character arcs in a complex and interesting manner. Add in lyrical storytelling and exquisite cinematography and Rectify vaults to the top of my all-time TV shows. Breaking Bad's inventive use of cinematography caused me to gasp out loud at their cleverness in setting up stunning shots, whereas Rectify caused me to tear up with emotion at the sheer beauty of the shot and how it captured the emotion of the moment. Both are admirable, but when compared, Breaking Bad's seems sterile compared to the visceral tug of Rectify's cinematography. It's likely that in my lifetime I'll not see 8 characters explored as thoroughly, I sure hope I'm wrong about that! Expand

It is rare that a TV series can achieve such flawless beauty -- the plot, the characters, the acting, the restraint is pure magic. By the 4th season, we are pulled in so deeply that we are able to empathize with even the most complex characters. This series goes down as some of the best TV in the history of the medium. Thank you.

What can i say about this series that hasn't already been said. It doesn't need to be gritty the be recognized like The Wire or Sopranos. Political like The West Wing..Three series well regarded as the greatest of all time. Rectify is the heart of america, it's humanity. I can only hope in the future Rectify is regarded as one of the Greatest American Television Drama's in history!

The best show on television, hands down. Gothic literature references, great acting, and a name like Amantha. So good. I can't wait to see the resolution, and wish that there was more sleeper shows like this.

Rectify went from a must-watch show to a masterpiece in season 4. The plot is heart-wrenching, the acting visceral, and the end product is something not to be missed. Even before this season, I loved the show, particularly the dead-on performance of Aden Young throughout the series. But this season has just absolutely blown me away.

Rectify will, now and forever, be among the pantheon

It's a visceral affliction on your senses that continues to linger long after the series ends. The writing, acting and direction continues to be overlooked and has not received the recognition it deserves. No show has ever picked at and teased out human emotion in order to develop the kind of characters synonymous with middle America. I read some time amor Rectify was not an audience success.
The freedom given by this statement may partly explain why the writing and interpretation of the 4th and final season of Rectify are borderline genius.

In my opinion, this is quite possibly the best series I have ever watched. Season 4 was as perfect as could be. I have never been so touched by, or felt so much emotion from watching a show. The entire cast is flawless, as is the writing, soundtrack...it kept me glued to the screen. I was especially happy with the way the series ended...just brilliant!

Ties up the story nicely, but could have been done quicker. By far the worst season of the show because all the dialogue is so over the top sometimes and repetitive; the acting is not the issue as much as the writing. That being said, this season did have its moments and has a remarkably better ending than other shows often do.

Rectify more than lives up to the legacy of its previous seasons as it crosses the finish line. There's a bittersweetness, both in the story itself but also in the knowledge that there won't be any more after this. But that's OK. Because there is a life after, for us and for Daniel. And there's hope in the healing.

As I was watching the fourth season, I didn't realize until the last episode that it was the series finale. It is a show that is a slow boil, but never fully boils. The three main women of the show are exhausting in how whinny and boring they are. It is interesting about the effects of prison. It will be an easily forgettable show. It has very few moments of this is going to get good now.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's a calm show with a uniquely slow pace. At times it is charming...a very welcome change from other shows which often fail to let their characters and moments breathe. But too often this season, this show has just been dull. And then there is the implausibility of the manic pixie girl character Chloe. She meets Daniel, researches him, discovers he spent over a decade in prison for raping/killing someone, and then the next time she sees him she invites him back to her place? Who would do that? This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really enjoyed the show up til this season and was looking forward to seeing it come to a close. This season was sooooooo boring. I did not care about the mom letting go, her visits to see Daniel, his little brother selling crap, Tawney's patient's death, the Teds' father-son relationship, the selling of the stupid tire store, Daniel's roomates, Daniel's new girlfriend, and a few other things I am sure. The ending where the DA pretty much admitted on TV that Daniel was probably innocent was tearful. Even all the talking about the failed initial investigation got old. I just didn't feel this season even for a slow burn show like this. Expand

I was wondering why this was so highly rated, but having seen it, I understand now. I don't want to give much away, but it feels like a satisfying ending to the show, and I'm really glad they didn't try to drag it out forever.

Some scenes are a little ridiculous, but overall, it's some of the best Drama you'll see outside of Breaking Bad.

No other series so poignantly probes the human condition and our concept of reality, identity, what we know and what is true with such alluring complexity. In a just world, more people would watch Rectify. That it existed at all, and leaves four tremendous seasons to savor and contemplate, is its own lovely blessing.
