Mortal Kombat 1 is a superbly presented fighting game with something to offer players of all experience and familiarity with NetherRealm's sprawling MK universe. The Kameo fighter system injects new strategic depth into combat, the rebooted timeline feeds a ridiculous story, and the suite of game modes are both varied and well made.
If you were eagerly awaiting the new installment of the franchise, we tell you in advance that you are going to enjoy it, especially if you are a fan of fighting games. Also, if you want to enter this interesting genre, I think it is a gateway that will make you feel welcome to the most brutal combat.
Mortal Kombat 1 is one of the best fighting games of recent years. A new high point for the series in the form of reimagining, ideal for neophytes and brimming with affection for his legacy for veterans.
Mortal Kombat 1 has fun gameplay with several combo route options thanks to Kameos. However, Invasions mode gets boring quickly and the final arc of Story mode doesn't please either. Character customization should have been better after what we've seen in other NetherRealm Studios games and the absence of the Krypt is notable.
Even though Mortal Kombat 1 is no Flawless Victory, it still feels like a step forward for the franchise. The core gameplay is the best it’s ever been, which I think is the most important thing for the genre. It’s a great entry point for newcomers to fighting games and even fellow casual players like myself looking to delve a little deeper than usual. The Story Mode is peak cinematic Mortal Kombat which alone is a worthwhile adventure for those interested. Despite a lackluster lineup of modes with an unnecessary grind for cosmetics, Mortal Kombat 1 is still fun to play. Ultimately, it’s a brilliant reboot, and I’m on board for wherever the universe takes us next.
The story campaign and, arguably, the fighting are the best they’ve ever been for Mortal Kombat, although there’s currently a lack of other modes and Invasion is a disappointment.
Mortal Kombat 1 envisions an exciting future with fluid combat, a fantastic story mode, and superb visuals - but receding features, underbaked mechanics, and a dated online experience keep it in the past.
Very good fighting game, MK 11 was trash, but thankfully series is back, better than ever (even tho MK 9 still king). But if they add classic costumes for female characters, robots and Noob Saibot, this might be even better than MK 9. But only if they do that.
MK1 is a decent game, just lacking in key areas compared to its recent iterations. The game graphics look great from the characters to the environment, but the content beyond the story such as invasion mode is extremely repetitive, not rewarding, and introduces burdensome mechanics like talismans and relics that don't do enough to justify their significance. Tower mode is there but doesn't offer anything different or new from the traditional experience.
The Kameo system offers some variation on character styles and combos but is really just an extra special move at the end of the day.
Online mode is fine if you enjoy the sweaty ranked 1vs1 matches or King of Hill mode, but there is nothing for casual players such as co-op challenges, tag, or other modes beyond hyper competitive play. Making online mode an exhausting and short lived experience.
The shop content is disappointing offering generic palette swapped costumes and premium shop also offers very little. The premium shop also hasn't been refreshed since launch which is an extreme blow to players who bought the premium edition and dragon krystals. Selling premium currency with nothing to spend it on. Predatory tactics with false advertising.
This game is 100% dependent on a patch to resolve the issues pointed out in this review or it most likely be considered an extremely disappointing release that will set the negative outlook on the future of Mortal Kombat. NRS can do much better and chose to release MK1 in this current state.
So, imagine a fighting that doesn`t punish spamming in block and has brocken **** characters like Sub Zero, Kenshi or Raiden. On top of that they sell you roster of just 22 characters for an AAA price.
The story was a fun 6 hours and then it got boring. After a great story the rest falls flat like a Goro squashed pancake. Invasion is riddled with bugs and towers are beyond boring. You grind and grind for XP to unlock worthless terrible items. Finishing invasion was a long waste of time for a mid skin. There's nothing else to do now and the game has become worthless. Online is a mess and cheating abundant. The finishers are boring rehashes of old ones or straight up copies of old ones. There are less fighters and the ideas ran out. Krypt is gone replaced by a half braindead invasion adventure RPG with zero effort put in. After the latest patch nothing is fixed but more things are broken and the game plays slower.
Game was clearly rushed. Incorrect frame data in move list. Lack of single player and online modes. Lack of skins. Seriously, there's only ONE kameo skin as of now. Invasions mode is terrible. Nobody in the history of this earth has ever said they liked to play fighting games with modifiers that constantly stop you from doing even the most basic of combos. There's no character loadouts/skin select in the character select menu. Constant audio bugs during online matches. The only thing this game has going for it is the story, which is alright for the most part (except for the ending, which **** completely) and the core gameplay, which is pretty solid and fun.
Tldr: Don't buy this game until the "ultimate edition" releases
