If it doesn't reinvent the wheel, Payday 3 modernizes its four-player heist formula with accuracy and intelligence, and that's all we ask of it. The eight missions available to date are well done - and make excellent use of the few new mechanics. All in all, the life of a “controller in hand” thug is still just as demanding. Even if we can criticize a slight lack of content, especially for the arsenal, this third part already sticks to the skin with a system of skills, difficulty modes which always make you want to start again and achieve the ideal run. A superb foundation for the future.
As any larcenist knows, all the best robberies begin discreetly before snowballing into a wild frenzy soundtracked to upbeat electronic music. Payday 3 does this with brimming style, before running away with the money.
In summary, Payday 3 shows promise with its solid core mechanics, but suffers from server issues, matchmaking problems, and a lack of content at the time of the review. Character progression is slow and frustrating, and there’s a need for improvements and additional content to enhance the overall experience. Subscribers to the Xbox Gamepass may find it worth trying out, but the game falls short of its potential.
Payday 3 is a solid step forward for my favorite heist simulator franchise, even though that step is a lot smaller than I’d hoped due to a lack of content and the unsurprising but still majorly annoying bugs and performance issues. The awesome combat, greatly improved AI, and especially the stealth options are so massive they alone justify this as a full sequel, and the new and improved heists with clear phases to navigate them are absolutely fantastic. I just wish there was more loot in the proverbial vault at the outset, and that Starbreeze would have used its years of experience in order to ensure this was a more robust and far more stable launch. I’m confident Payday 3 could become the sequel we all deserve with a year or two of updates – for now, it’s a nice start.
Payday 3 is a competently made and fairly polished heist-’em-up but while stealth gets an upgrade, the shooting is the same as its decade-old predecessor. Hitman-esque levels provide a nice distraction, but this feels like a foundation for Payday 3 as a live service game rather than a total product.
Starbreeze promised the apex of the Payday series and delivered a game that looks last-gen that's nearly impossible to play thanks to the terrible matchmaking and the awful servers. This game is a joke and should be called an alpha version.
If you're hoping for a decent single-player experience, you're **** out of luck. Payday 3 is a resolutely co-op affair, but then, you'll need people you can trust to pull of the perfect heist. Either way, this is a first-person shooter that's criminally good fun.
TGG – 7/ 10
AUDIO7/10
Appropriately cinematic music as you set up your heist of choice, and plenty of in-game lines of chatter. There is an odd bug where lots of audio occasionally plays on top of one another on the main menu, though.
VISUALS 7/10
Perfectly decent. Each environment is tight and compact, but packs in the requisite detail, while character models – including the classic payday gang of Dallas, Hoxton, Wolf, and Chains, alongside newbies Pearl and Joy – also look good.
PLAYABILITY 7/10
Robust first-person shooter mechanics and stealth options make for a flexible and enjoyable experience, no matter which heist you choose to partake in. Get a posse of four together, all communicating and coordinating like they should, and Payday 3 is magic.
DELIVERY 8/10
Eight heists, each presenting their own set of challenges. You'll soon blow through those, of course, which leaves you with either refining your approach and getting down to clockwork precision or braving the higher difficulties.
I get it - Release is a mess. But considering we’re going to be playing the game for 5+ years (like we played PD2 for 10 years) Im not overly concerned about the server situation. I really like the game so fare and the fundamentals are there, I also know they’ll deliver the game I will love in time. Just off to a rough start, will be back to the heisting we love soon.
Even without discussing the server issue, the game is barely a 4 out of 10 for me. It's a highly disappointing experience compared to Payday 2, with a lot of missing elements.
ugh, this game is a mess.
Obviously it suffers from being online only, but when you actually CAN play it, its just more frustrating than it is fun.
The sneaking mechanics are not very good, and as soon as anyone slips up you are all forced to "mask up" and it basically just becomes a mindless shoot-fest. I will say that the gunplay is good and if you want to just slay endless waves of cops then the game gets that right, but it doesn't really get much else right.
There's also only 8 **** there's a large amount of cosmetics to purchase, so you're expected to just keep grinding the same 8 missions to unlock **** what? To wear your new unlocks while you keep grinding the same 8 missions?...alright.
It's fun enough for an evening of drunken nonsense, but that's about it.
Just seems like another mediocre game that luckily xbox put on the game pass on release. This should really be a tipoff to gamers in the future -- **** is on gamepass on release, then it isn't really worth the full asking price. E.g. Redfall, Starfield
Pass.
