You don’t need to watch the other movies in the “Saw” series to enjoy this one, but it will help. With some Avengers-style phone calls in Act One and a mid-credits kicker, this is “Saw” in the superhero age. It’s a flick for the die-hard fans that rewards those who keep asking for more. After a decade as Halloween’s most hyped-up annual release in the aughts, “Saw” is finally back this October to tell Taylor Swift she’s not the only one doing vigilante shit. Congrats, Tobin. You deserve this one.
Greutert’s film brings back the core elements that made these movies work. It’s an uncomplicated, effective horror thriller, even though it’s trapped itself in the past with nowhere else to go.

Very solid movie and i will take Saw sequels over Scream sequels any day, but THEY NEED TO BRING BACK ADAM IN NEXT MOVIE! come on.

The traps are disgusting; the plot, so self-serious its absurd (and knowingly so). And unlike the sundry sequels before it (by the third “Saw,” any pretense of ingenuity had been hacked off), this one manages to make you feel something beyond gross-out adrenaline — assuming you have affection for the franchise’s mainstays.
After the gimmicky Saw 3D: The Final Chapter, the clunky semi-reboot of Jigsaw, and the misguided Spiral: From the Book of Saw, Saw X feels like a welcome return to form.
Stripped back to basics, Saw’s appeal (if that’s the word) is certainly clearer than it’s been for a while; the series isn’t really horror at all, but a revenge thriller taken to deliberately appalling test-your-nerve extremes.
Saw X is “Saw 1.5” chronologically, taking place between the first and second films in this granddaddy of torture porn franchises. Quality-wise, though, it is closer to a 10 than a zero, which cannot be said about most of the other nine movies in this distressingly popular series.
Tobin Bell’s comeback may please some, but it’s not a sufficient X-cuse to see Saw resuscitated.
To me all the extremely positive reviews seem like bots. Of course it gets decent reviews, because it's overall well made movie, BUT, anyone who cares about the lore and overall timeline, will be disappointed. If this movie takes place few weeks after what happened to Adam and Gordon, then how should i feel sympathy to John? or what about Amanda? She was horrible person. Why would i like her? She killed Adam in most horrible way possible, instead of letting him go. Now, if they actually showed that Adam actually didn't die, this would fix everything and this movie would be actually very good, but they don't do that.

As a long time fan of the Saw series this entry was just alright. It certainly has better production value and it was cool to see more of Tobin Bell and more of his backstory as Jigsaw. That being said I think its time to lay this series to rest. This entry didn’t really feel that necessary and the “traps” were very uninspired feeling to me. Maybe that was the point though because of where it takes place in the timeline, i’m not sure.

It begins with what feels like promising direction and even perhaps the arrival of a character to cheer on for the first time in the franchise. However, that quickly fizzles and you’re stuck with the same old thing - no likeable characters, bad acting, and the question remaining of who the heck thought this is of quality or importance to make? See Talk To Me or The Boogeyman to get your horror fix for 2023.
