Marvel's Midnight Suns

2K Games

Marvel's Midnight Suns is a strategy game that lets you customize your own character (known as the Hunter) before leading a team of superheroes into battle. Familiar faces from The Avengers, X-Men, and more are eligible to join your squad, each bringing powerful skills to the battlefield to help you fend off Lilith and the elder god Chthon.

To defeat Lilith and her evil forces, you'll need to master a complex turn-based combat system. You'll command multiple superheroes on the battlefield, and learning the intricacies of your team is the key to victory. Some heroes, such as Spider-Man, can bind enemies with his webs or sling objects around his environment, while others including Wolverine can soak up incredible amounts of damage and turn the focus away from his teammates. There's also a unique card system layered on top of the action, giving you yet another way to customize your playstyle.

When not in combat, you'll get to interact with your fellow superheroes in The Abby — a secret base that serves as a central hub for all your adventures. Not only does this give you a chance to learn more about the lore behind Midnight Suns, but there are plenty of secrets to discover that could help you defeat Lilith and her minions.

Midnight Suns should take close to 50 hours to complete, and there are plenty of similar games to check out once you've wrapped up your journey. Whether you're seeking another strategy game or bombastic Marvel adventure, something is bound to catch your eye.

Here are 10 games like Marvel's Midnight Suns to play next, listed by Metascore.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses (Switch)

Metascore: 89
Best for: Fans of turn-based RPGs
Where to buy:

,

Fire Emblem: Three Houses brings a few new wrinkles to the long-running franchise. The most exciting addition is the ability to freely roam the towering Gareg Mach Monastery in between battles, which allows you to train your troops, gear up for the next encounter, or discover a bunch of hidden secrets. Once you're in combat, however, you'll find a battle system that should be immediately familiar to all fans of strategy games. You and your enemy will take turns maneuvering around the map as you vie for advantageous positions and try to eliminate the opposition. To make things more tense, any troops that die in combat are lost for the entire game — although newcomers can turn this option off for a more approachable experience.

"An inspired innovation of a time-tested franchise, providing the same tactics fans love in a much more inviting package." — Screen Rant

Seeing as both XCOM 2 and Midnight Suns were developed by Firaxis Games, it should come as no surprise that the two games have a lot in common. But instead of superheroes and supervillains, XCOM 2 puts you in charge of a group of soldiers as they try to repel an alien invasion of Earth. Shootouts are just as tactical as you'd expect, with well-designed maps and unique class abilities giving you plenty of ways to plan out your attack. It can be a bit daunting for newcomers, but anyone that sticks with it will find one of the best strategy games of all time.

Both strategy newcomers and veterans alike will find plenty to love about the system, with a learning curve that's just steep enough to keep your interest without becoming overwhelming.
