Assassin’s Creed Mirage didn’t lie to us. The new opus offers us a return to basics in due form, with an old-fashioned credo and modern mechanics à la Unity. A true melting pot - both in terms of approaches, NPCs and mechanics taken from previous ACs - Mirage is a call to almost limitless freedom. On the other hand, its old-fashioned gameplay, its small technical shortcomings and its very classic side risk leaving some behind. But fans of the license have with Mirage a gripping story, a pleasant breath of nostalgia and a new grandiose dive into great History. Yes, Basim's adventure does not reinvent the wheel, but it is an excellent way to wait for the next big game in the license, Assassin's Creed Codename Red.
Assassin's Creed Mirage is a triumphant return to the roots of the series. Basim invites us to be stealthy and think carefully, calculating every step in a Baghdad full of details and places to explore. It is a different installment to what we are used to with the most recent releases, but both newcomers and veterans of the saga should give it a try.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage is a triumphant return to the style of the original Assassin’s Creed games. It maintains some RPG elements such as upgrading equipment and learning abilities through skill points, but this is done on a smaller scale than the most recent predecessors. Mirage hits the sweet spot when it comes to game length, long enough to feel worthwhile but short enough where it never drags or feels bogged down by filler content.
Assassin's Creed Mirage is perfectly serviceable and will certainly scratch an itch for major fans - though it's arguably not a bad entry point for newcomers either.
The best AC game Ubisoft released in years. Runs on all platforms smoothly, fun, good story. Scenery amazing. By the end I was left wanting more from the game. The character is likeable Ubisoft can explore the option of adding a dlc to this- there is so much content to explore for sure. If fans love this do you even need a ‘critic’ review at this point? My friends love it and I’m happy so good for Ubisoft they took direction well.
I picked up Assassin's Creed when it first came out and fell in love with the series. However, after AC III, my love faded.
I picked up the series again with Valhalla and it was love all over again. I actually really enjoyed the departure from the original gameplay that got me initially hooked. I love building my character and perfectly tailoring my traits and weapon choices to suit my playstyle.
I would say that AC Mirage greatly lacks in this customizability. But,I get it.
It feels like a love letter to the Assassin's Creed of old. The map is not like those of the previous three iterations of the game. Instead of an immense map with dozens of towns and rolling countryside, we get placed in the ancient city of Baghdad. It reminds me of the ACII trilogy where the primary setting is one big city (Venice, Rome, Istanbul).
I was worried about this because I love to explore big open worlds and I believed that the setting being one city would detract from that. But I have been pleasantly surprised at how much there is to discover throughout the city.
I appreciate the callback to the old AC games and I can accept the lack of weapon diversity. I like that I can keep my eagle to get a bird's eye view of a compound and mark guards and chests.
What displeases me about the game is the stilted and poorly written dialogue, the seemingly lower graphical fidelity, and the fact that enemies are absolutely stupid and deaf and have the attention span ****.
The game isn't "hard." It forces you to be more tactful and stealthy, as you might expect from an AC title of yore. Gone are the barbaric days of hacking and slashing your way through an enemy encampment, but maybe that is fine?
The fighting is simply light attack, heavy attack, parry, or dodge. All with a sword. Assassinating enemies is quite easy, especially with throwing knives. Stealth is quite easy. Just be in a bush. Pull in one enemy to assassinate, wait for the next guy to come and poke around and kill him too, repeat.
I am enjoying the game. But when a game like Horizon: zero dawn exists, I feel a bit robbed of the polished and nuanced experience I would expect from a AAA studio like Ubisoft.
Just a mobile game disguised as a new gen AC chapter.
Ubisoft is switching to mobile and this Ac is a technical step down in every aspect.
The only reason for not develop an improved AC RPG is because mobile cpu couldn't manage well such games
Lazy, cheap, uninventive, buggy, stupid non-reactive enemy's AI, no new mechanics, rudimental story, parasitising on great first games' legacy.
I keep playing it in a fading hope to get some nostalgic sense **** story and a gameplay, but no. It's a just an amazing model of a city on which Ubisoft sprinkled some idiotic flat story to get a player to discover its different parts.
