Naval Base Kitsap, Washington
Overview
Naval Base Kitsap is the largest naval organization in Navy Region Northwest. Located on the Kitsap Peninsula in Washington State, it was established on 4 June 2004 by merging five naval installations under one command, including Naval Station Bremerton, Naval Submarine Base Bangor, Naval Undersea Warfare Center Keyport, Manchester Fuel Depot, and Jackson Park Housing. The base, which encompasses more than 10,000 acres, supports 70 tenant commands including Commander, Navy Region Northwest; Commander, Submarine Group 9; John C. Stennis (CVN-74) Strike Group; and Naval Facilities and Engineering Command’s Northwest Headquarters. The base is also responsible for Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PSNS & IMF). The shipyard performs dry-dock and overhaul services for active naval vessels and serves as a home for several decommissioned warships, including aircraft carriers.
