The following contains spoilers for Superior Spider-Man #1, on sale next week

Otto Octavius famously took over Spider-Man's body for a time as the Superior Spider-Man. Now, years later, Octavius cannot remember what happened during that time period, and that lack of knowledge has proven disastrous, especially for the real Spider-Man in this CBR exclusive preview of next week's Superior Spider-Man #1.

Superior Spider-Man #1 comes from writer Dan Slott, pencilers Mark Bagley and Nathan Stockman (Stockman drew the issue's backup story),. Inker John Dell, colorist Edgar Delgado and letterer Joe Caramgna, and it continues the story introduced in last month's Superior Spider-Man Returns #1, which showed Doctor Octopus discovering an experiment hidden in the wreckage of his past Superior Spider-Man headquarters, a powerful experiment that he recognized as something he had been trying to solve for years, and apparently he had solved it while he was Spider-Man, only Octavius cannot recall HOW he solved it. When he opened the sealed-off experiment, the truth was revealed, and it might prove deadly for the REAL Spider-Man.

You see, back when Octavius was Spider-Man, he had been working on an experiment where he could harness the power of a sun, but such a gigantic power source, naturally, was difficult to contain. Octavius had hired a lab assistant, Estrella Lopez, to help him work on the experiment. Soon, Lopez found herself effectively becoming one of Octavius' henchmen. However, she continued to work on the experiment and one of the main reasons Octavius cannot remember the solution to his experiment problem is that it was Lopez who solved it.

Octavius quickly took credit for her idea, though, and so, when he was off on a date, Lopez decided to continue the experiment on her own to spite her "boss," and in the process, she accidentally absorbed the power of the experiment. Octavius trapped her in a containment field, but since he didn't remember what happened in the past, he accidentally let her out in the present day. She is now vowing vengeance, but the person she wants vengeance on is Spider-Man, who Octavius was THEN, but isn't NOW.

In the preview pages, we see Spider-Man (and his new/old sidekick, Spider-Boy) fighting against Estrella, who is calling herself Super-Nova now. She is very much anti-Spider-Man, and he can't figure it out, since Peter has no idea who she is (he doesn't have Octavius' memories from his Superior Spider-Man days, either).

Octavius' old girlfriend during his time in Peter Parker's body, Anna-Maria Marconi, recognizes Estrella, as well, and since Anna-Maria is one of the few people to know that Superior Spider-Man wasn't the REAL Spider-Man, she might fill both Estrella and Spider-Man in on what happened, but we won't know for sure until Superior Spider-Man #1 comes out next week.
