Fear the Walking Dead showrunner Andrew Chambliss discussed the series recently, and he hinted at a possible spinoff.
In an interview with ComicBook, Chambliss revealed that the creative team's foremost objective in crafting Fear the Walking Dead's story was to have a satisfying self-contained conclusion. The showrunner, however, stated that they also had a level of freedom with the characters, "I think we were given the freedom to end these characters where we wanted to, and we're kind given the edict that Fear's story should come first," he said. "And we really did try to craft these stories so they felt like a satisfying conclusion. But we also wanted to create this feeling that there is a next chapter in all these characters' lives," Chambliss explained.
Chambliss is aware that the decision to tell more stories with Fear theWalking Dead's characters is ultimately out of his hands, stating, "Whether or not we see that, that's a question for Scott [Gimple, The Walking Dead Universe Chief Content Officer] and for AMC, but I think there's definitely lots of room for these characters to continue to grow and develop."
Fear the Walking Dead premiered on August 23, 2015, with Chambliss and Ian Goldberg serving as showrunners from the fourth season, succeeding Dave Erickson from the first three. AMC renewed the series for an eighth and final season in 2021, which premiered on May 14, 2023. The two-episode series finale aired on November 19, 2023.

Troy Otto returned for the final season after he died at Madison Clark's hands back in Season 3. Madison again makes the same fatal decision in Fear the Walking Dead's penultimate episode, and Chambliss' co-showrunner Goldberg explained why, "I think it's about testing Madison's mantra of 'no one's gone until they're gone.'" he said.
"In that moment, at the end of episode 11, Madison is faced with this dilemma of it seems like Troy has changed. It seems that he is worthy of redemption based on his actions. But Madison has seen time and again how you can get burned for that. And I think there's a real question in her mind can Troy be trusted? Is it worth the risk?' And in that moment she decides it isn't, that the more pragmatic choice is to kill him," Goldberg explained.
