Iman Vellani has revealed her attitude toward The Marvels' box office woes, as well as getting the support of renowned author Stephen King.

Last week, King called out those celebrating The Marvels' box office struggles, posting via X (formerly Twitter): "I don’t go to MCU movies, don’t care for them, but I find this barely masked gloating over the low box office for THE MARVELS very unpleasant. Why gloat over failure?" In a new interview with Yahoo, Vellani referenced the importance of King's support but said that ultimately, the box office is out of sight, out of mind.

"I don't want to focus on something that's not even in my control, because what's the point?" Vellani said. "That's for Bob Iger. [The box office] has nothing to do with me. I'm happy with the finished product, and the people that I care about enjoyed the film. It's genuinely a good time watching this movie, and that's all we can ask for with these films. It has superheroes, it takes place in space, it's not that deep and it's about teamwork and sisterhood. It's a fun movie, and I'm just so happy that I can share it with people."

Some of the negativity took Vellani back to her high school days, when people would shoot her down for things that she got excited about. "I would hate to see that within the fan community as well," she said, "because it does feel awful. If people are excited about something, let them be excited about it. And if you have constructive criticism, voice it — but never be the wet blanket on someone else's excitement."

Now aged 21, Vellani's quick rise to fame is owed not just to her excitability but also her depth of knowledge of Marvel comics. In 2022, Vellani revealed clashing heads on numerous occasions with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige over Doctor Strange continuities, before the reveal earlier this year that she was trusted with all things related to The Marvels. Her insight was how she landed the Kamala role previously, and in an exclusive interview with CBR, she teased big things regarding her character's future.

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures distributes The Marvels, which is described as follows: "Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan, Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team-up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as 'The Marvels.'"

The Marvels was released in theaters on Nov. 10, 2023.
