The Super Mario RPG remake is an impossible wish come true. The biggest complaints for this release pale in comparison to incredible visuals, new intense challenges, fantastic music, and well-retained charm. This release is sure to be worthwhile for both fans of the original and first-time Mario players.
Nintendo recaptures the magic of Super Mario RPG, where nostalgia and brilliance go hand to hand thanks to a gameplay with subtle changes that really works.
Iconic, a classial, just perfect in any way. I love how much they kept it like the original but just made it high quality instead of just making a port on the switch
Super Mario RPG is so faithful to the original that calling it a remake feels disingenuous. The game is more of a top-to-bottom remaster. Every scrap of it had been re-built, polished, and reborn for the modern era. The visuals, the music, and the controls all feel crisp and clean. The writing holds up quite well. And there are a few pleasant surprises for fans of the original release. Since I'm so familiar with the game, I wish there was more new content, but I'm at peace with this. It's better that the game be preserved for a new audience. But whether this is your first time playing or your fifteenth, you're gonna love Super Mario RPG for the Switch.
Super Mario RPG is a remake that follows pretty closely the original game from SNES, with its core actually holding up really well. What's interesting is that Nintendo has not only pumped up the visual aspect, but it has also introduced new elements so that it measures up to today's standards. On the not so good side of things is that some players may find Super Mario RPG exceedingly easy and kind of repetitive, but even so it remains a funny and joyful experience, and you'll love the artistic side as well as the OST.
Enjoyable, flashy remake of the first Mario RPG that makes up for its battle's lack of bite with buckets of charming nonsense and revives one of Bowser's best appearances.
Super Mario RPG is a gorgeous reimagining of the SNES classic thanks to the highly detailed 3D animations. Those looking for a dose of nostalgia will be pleased that this is an extremely faithful remake, with just enough tweaks to make it more accessible to a new generation of gamers without diluting the magic of the original.
Even without some necessary changes, Super Mario RPG remains one of the plumber's most charming and eccentric adventures. The remake faithfully maintains it's quirkyness while expanding the magic with one of the Switch's most impressive graphic treatments. If you are a fan of the original, however, know that this is not exactly the remake that the original deserved.
This game is as a remake a very good experience, because it is so close to the original game. The graphic is beautiful despite little framedrops. The characters are charming and you get the idea, why this game get this high reputation. This game is the origin off the later acclaimed Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door and Mario & Luigi: Bowsers Inside Story.
However the disatvantage being so close to the original is, that there are no improvements or modern elements, which means it has the same issues like the original game from 1996. The isometric perspektive make this game look cute and charming, but on the other side makes jumping in this game terrible. You will miss a lot of jumps by simply missjudging the gap between two plattforms. Which can be in the end a bit frustrating because there where the most plattforming parts.
Another thing is, that Super Mario RPG is really simple in it's structure. You will only need less than 20 hours to play through the main story. There is no deep story, no deep character developement. It is just find the seven stars and then you finished it. The way it builds up follows a established formular. You get the information where the next star is, follow the route, come to a town or a village where something strange is going on, go in the dungeon or wood nearby and beat the boss.
This is not really a bad thing, because this is the structure most RPG's in the 90's used and it still works and is an enjoyable and relaxing experience. However I wished these bunch of sympathic characters, the gameplay and the writing, where a bit more fleshed out. so clearly a missed opportunity
All in all a great remake, which is maybe a bit too close to the original for it's own good.
The game still feels old and too difficult. Boring sound design and terrible combat system. I like turn-based and the speed. But it’s to hard to react by this timing. It’s like the SNES version is running in background. Not worth 60 bucks. Anyway, you can test the SNES version. If you don’t like it, you’ll not like the remake. It’s the same old feeling. Other people may like this. But in this case I’m bored about.
It's an okay game but these reviews are highly inflated. The story is extremely linear and the combat progression is as well. It feels like you're on a conveyor belt where you hardly have to make any choices. You'rein charge of your equipment and then three stats. Outside of that there's really just one or two best moves for a character. it gets old pretty quick.
I imagine this game was groundbreaking and exciting in 1995. Not so much today.
