After a tremendous introduction to the superhero lives of Peter Parker and Miles Morales on PS4, Insomniac Games has crafted an even better adventure that showcases the true power of PS5 hardware. A game that is streamlined, ambitious, emotional, and showcases the true potential of the superhero genre in a gaming medium.
With Spider-Man 2, the developers at Insomniac continue the adventures of Peter and Miles with a gripping story, taking many of the strengths of the predecessors and making meaningful improvements in the right places.
Insomniac Games delivers another stellar superhero-adventure. With the lessons learned from the first Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles: Morales, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 turns out to be an epic yet always enjoyable open-world-action-game that satisfies fans with its love for its characters but also with a well-rounded gameplay and interesting and varied mission-design.
There’s still a ton of things to like about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Insomniac wisely kept the formula that worked so well in place and expanded it, removing a lot of what didn’t work and filling it in with new side content to leave players with plenty to do. There are few open-world games that are anywhere near as engaging, in large part because so few of them can capture the genuine joy of simply moving through the world in the way these games do. That so much of the game’s content has been broken down into its best parts makes it all the more frustrating, though, when the game continues to make a few major mistakes it’s been making since the very first entry. Still, any fans of the first two games will have a blast returning to this world in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
Even if these faults are eventually fixed in an upcoming patch, it’s clear that this game should not have been released in its current inexcusable state. It’s a shame because, critiques aside, there’s a genuinely addictive gameplay loop here that I’m sure I would have found more compelling if there was stability. Ultimately, bugs are not guaranteed in everyone’s playthroughs, so you may get lucky. But I do recommend being aware of these potential problems and making backup saves should something go awry.
No wonder this game shows 90 if Metacritic keeps deleting bad user reviews (How much did Sony paid guys?).
The story is so poor compared to the first Spiderman game which it brought me to tears. There’s no sense of thrill or danger since Miles Morales survives falling from a **** and Mary Jane goes toe to toe with monsters. The taskmaster feels like what Kraven could have been. Also say bye to character development since the plot serves more as a political agenda than a great story, wanna introduce LGBT characters and powerful women? MAKE GREAT CHARACTERS (Control, Alan Wake)
don’t shove us down the throat some last minute change to a character that doesn’t make sense (Black Cat)
STOP blaming the consumer on poor writing
We really don’t bother when it has sense, just ask Remedy how it’s done
Graphics on point
Gameplay wise it’s kind of the same Spiderman but with combat downgrades, (it feels like a chore). And the swinging feels awesome without the assistance
Doubled down on the worst parts of the last game, and seems to REALLY hate Spiderman. It's a little bit embarrassing to see Peter get emasculated at every turn. ACTUAL gameplay is okay when you're not forced to engage with cinematic walking sequences, spray painting black history poems, discussing green energy or playing as Mary Jane wiping the floor with an actual army while Peter is trapped under a fridge. Honestly embarrasing and I wonder how much Sony paid for these reviews
