FAQ Question #193

» What happens to my user pictures when my paid account or additional space expires?

If your paid account status expires and you have more pictures currently stored on the server than your account type allows, your pictures will remain on the server. However, some of them will be marked "inactive." Which pictures will be marked "inactive" is dependent on the frequency with which each one has been used in the last two months in your own journal. Comments and community entries are not taken into account. Your default picture will remain active, along with the pictures you have used most frequently in your own journal, for a total of six pictures for Early Adopters, and three for users with Free Accounts.

Inactive pictures will remain visible in all old entries or comments that you made using them. However, you will not be able to choose to use the inactive pictures on new entries or comments. Additionally, only your active pictures will be shown to other users at http://www.livejournal.com/allpics.bml. In order to restore the inactive pictures to activity, you would need to return your account to paid status.

If you decide to upload a new picture when you are at or over the maximum for your current account type, you will need to delete pictures until you are at the correct number of pictures for your current account type and have made room for the new picture.

If you also have additional user picture space, you will only be able to use the additional user pictures for the time that you choose to pay for. When your add-on time expires, which is independent of your paid account expiration time, the system will deactivate enough of your least-used userpics to bring you to your account's usual limit. Information on user picture expiration and account limits can be found at http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=46.

You can only use the additional user picture space for the length of your paid account. If your paid account expires before your add-on time expires, your userpics will be inactivated, but they will be available again when you choose to pay for your account again. However, if your account remains in its unpaid status for six months, your additional userpics will be removed from the server, and you will need to re-upload them if you choose to pay for your account after that point.
