FAQ Question #92

» Why is my entry not showing up where it should?

There are several reasons why your entries might not be showing up as you intended. Here are some of the most common:

* If your entry is viewable in your own journal but not on other users' Friends pages or in your data feeds (such as RSS or Atom feeds), the problem may be that it was backdated. (Backdated entries always appear in the Calendar and Day views, and will also appear in the Recent Entries view if the date is within the range currently appearing on the page.) See http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=91 for more information on the "backdate entry" function. Alternatively, the problem may be that the entry is over two weeks old. Entries older than two weeks will not appear on your friends' Friends pages even if they are the latest posts in your journal.

* If the entry can only be seen on your friends' Friends pages, the entry is most likely misdated. Look at your journal page and carefully check the dates (including the year) of the most recent entries that appear. See http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=33 for more details.

* If you are not logged in, try logging in (http://www.livejournal.com/login.bml) and going to your journal page. If the entry now appears with an icon of a lock or an eye, or the notation "Security: Friends" or "Security: Private", you've set the security level of the entry to 'friends only' or 'private'. See http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=24 for more details on security levels.

* If you or someone on your Friends list has posted incorrectly-written HTML, this can cause the page to display incorrectly, giving the appearance that it is not updating. See http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=40 for more information.

* It's possible that you are viewing a cached version of your page. Click the 'Reload' or 'Refresh' button on your browser to bring up the latest version of your page. For more information on how to deal with outdated pages, see http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=160.

* As LiveJournal grows, the number of posts being handled at the same time also increases in scale. At any one time, there may be hundreds of connections open to the servers, and within a few seconds, as many as few hundred journals may be updated. There may be a bit of lag between when you post an entry and when LiveJournal is ready to display it. Refresh your page after a few seconds to see if this corrects the problem.

* LiveJournal might be experiencing technical difficulties. Check the LiveJournal Status Page (http://status.livejournal.org/) or the lj_maintenance community (http://www.livejournal.com/userinfo.bml?user=lj_maintenance) to see if there is a problem. If there is an ongoing problem, it will be listed in the Known Issues box at the top of the Support page (http://www.livejournal.com/support/).

If none of the above suggestions resolves your problem, you can visit the Support page at the above mentioned URL and submit a request for help.
