Oral Roberts sweeps Southern Utah while Western Illinois picks up a win in non-conference play

Oral Roberts exploded for 43 hits and 39 runs on the way to sweeping a conference twinbill against Southern Utah Friday afternoon by 25-9 and 14-2 scores. In non-conference play, Western Illinois opened up a four-game set against North Dakota State with an 18-4 win.

Southern Utah baseball player Amos Burgess voted to CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team
Southern Utah's Amos Burgess
Southern Utah University senior rightfielder Amos Burgess was voted onto the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII baseball first team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), which was announced Thursday. Burgess will be placed on the national Academic All-America ballot and those teams will be announced May 30.

Valparaiso's baseball squad rallied from an eight-run deficit to tie its game against Indiana, but the Hoosiers scored two in the ninth to grab a win over the Crusaders, 13-11.

Southern Utah tallies a win while Oakland and Valparaiso fall in baseball action
Southern Utah's Trever Dimick
Southern Utah finished up its season-long 12-game road swing with a 12-4 win over in-state rival Brigham Young. In other non-conference action, Oakland dropped a home contest to Bowling Green, 10-2, while Valparaiso gave up a ninth-inning, four-run rally in its 9-8 loss to IPFW.

Oral Roberts senior pitcher Nick Jones was selected as the Louisville Slugger National Pitcher of the Week and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Pitcher of the Week after tossing a no-hitter against Chicago State Sunday.
