Jonathan Schroeder, the William A. Kern Professor in Communications, presented his new book, August Strindberg and Visual Culture, at a book launch at the Stockholm School of Economics Center for Art, Business and Culture in Stockholm, Sweden, on Oct. 30.


Jonathan Schroeder,

the William A. Kern Professor in Communications, co-edited with Anna Westerthal Stenport and Ester Szalczer the book August Strindberg and Visual Culture: The Emergence of Optical Modernity in Image, Text and Theatre, published by Bloomsbury Publishing in September. The book includes a chapter by Timothy Engstrom, RIT professor of philosophy, and offers insights into Strindberg as a multimedia artist whose writing is inseparable from his visual imagination and from the visual technologies of his time. This interdisciplinary research project received support from the William A. Kern endowment and a College of Liberal Arts Publication Cost Grant.

the William A. Kern Professor in Communications, presented a paper on “The Vinyl LP in Midcentury American Cultural Diplomacy and Soft Power” at the International History and Diplomacy in the Twentieth Century conference May 4-5 at Oxford University in Oxford, England.




Jonathan Schroeder,

the William A. Kern Chair of Communications in the College of Liberal Arts, presented a talk on his new book, Designed for Hi-Fi Living: The Vinyl LP in Midcentury America, together with his co-author, Rochester writer Janet Borgerson, at Tucson Modernism Week in Arizona on Oct. 14.




Jonathan Schroeder,

the William A. Kern Professor in Communications in the College of Liberal Arts, received the "Best Paper Award" at the China International Marketing Conference in Qingdao, China, July 8-11. His paper, "The Rise of Inconspicuous Consumption in China," was co-authored by Zhiyan Wu and Jifeng Luo of China, and Janet L. Borgerson of England.




Jonathan Schroeder,

the William A. Kern Professor in Communications in the College of Liberal Arts, has been appointed to the board of trustees at the George Eastman Museum. His three-year term began in July.
