Three Mid-Con soccer teams earn NSCAA Team Academic Awards

| Valparaiso's Mis Mrak | The Valparaiso men's soccer team and the Southern Utah and Valparaiso women's soccer teams were honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) with Team Academic Awards for the 2005 season. To be eligible for the award, a team must have a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the 2004-05 academic year.

Western Illinois to face Notre Dame in NCAA Men’s College Cup

| Western Illinois, 2005 Mid-Con Men's Soccer Champions | ELMHURST, ILL. — The Western Illinois Leathernecks earned their second consecutive Mid-Continent Conference men’s soccer title with a 4-3 overtime victory over top-seeded Oakland Sunday. In addition to the Mid-Con crown, the Leathernecks garnered the conference’s automatic bid into the NCAA Division I Men’s College Cup in which WIU will face regionally-ranked Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., at 5 p.m. Nov. 18. The winner of the contest will go on to face third-seeded Indiana in the second round of the Men’s College Cup on Tuesday, Nov. 22.

Western Illinois wins second-straight Mid-Con Men’s Soccer Championship

| 2005 Mid-Continent Conference Men's Soccer Champions - Western Illinois | KANSAS CITY, MO. — The wind played a major factor in the Mid-Continent Conference Men’s Soccer Championship match as third-seeded Western Illinois (6-9-4, 3-2-1 Mid-Con) posted a 4-3 win in overtime against top-seeded Oakland (10-9-0, 5-1-0 Mid-Con) to win its second consecutive Mid-Con Championship at Swope Park in Kansas City, Mo. The Leathernecks also earn the Mid-Con’s automatic berth into the NCAA Men’s College Cup. The 48-team bracket will be announced Monday, November 14 between 4-4:30 p.m. (Eastern) on ESPNews.
